The only problem I had with the original engine was a sticking tappet, which was cured with the addition of STP & regular oil-changes.
There have been a few niggling problems with the present (super-charged) engine, which can be mostly attributed to my own poor handy-work.
The bodywork is generally good, however it is in the body-shop having new rear arches welded-on.
This is a lightweight, rear-wheel drive car that is seriously fun to drive.
Standard, it will reach the rev-limiter in 5th gear to indicate over 140mph. When super-charged, it requires concentration to keep below 110mph on motor-ways, and standing starts are silly, reaching 40mph in 3.98 seconds!
There are no creature comforts though, you'll need to wind the windows manually, there's no air-conditioning and the upholstery is somewhat `thin'. This also means that it weighs in at only 1011kg giving great power-to-weight ratio. The later face-lift models are a bit more plush and so weigh more.
I just got my first 79 corolla coupe. I want to put a super charger in it, but was a little bit hesitant until I read your review. cheers.
I have a friend who would do anything to try and find a Toyota Corolla GT Coupe, but with it being a limited addition he is struggling to find one. He said it is a great car and the one and only. Do you no of anyone that may have one for sale as would be very interested in it?
I myself had a GT coupe in the past and found it to be a one of a kind car for fun, handeling and drifting. I am currently on the look out for another one of these amazing machines so if you know of any for sale please let me know.
