Yeah, you could throw 40K at a Toyota and get some pretty good numbers, granted. Yet this is a lousy option considering what you could do with a used iroc and 30K. An iroc with only 15K put into it would be a threat to any Toyota short of formula 1. We can all play the horsepower game, but don't forget that torque is what makes tire smoke, not HP.
You could argue about what a supra could beat and what it couldn't, but nothing can take away the fact that the supra is THE ultimate street racing car. - I live in england, I've been to Japan, and most importantly, I've driven a 650 bhp greddy turbo'd nitrous injected Supra, belive me, I know.
Supra, supra, supra...I am a die hard Chevy man, still own a Tahoe, Ext. Cab Z71 but, anyways, I had a 1998 Camaro SS 6-sp vortech s-trim supercharger after cooler, lots of bolt ons, headers, y-pipe, hpp3,k&n, booster, m.a.s.,lots etc. whelp. I thought I was pretty quick, 11.5/129.
I'm driving on 580 west about 9pm to-wards San Jose, Ca. when this Supra gets beside me, waiting, we look at each other, at about 70mph I drop to 3rd, waiting, look again he nods go, I floor it, poof...poof...I see Supra tail lights EEEEERRRRRRR... I stopped the Supra owner, bs, I'm a believer, they are crazy fast w/not too much to invest. The hardest purchase of course is the car. Good will hunting.
750 hp supra? Twin Turbo? Do you know what a Camaro with an ls1 is capable of if it was turbocharged, the Callaway c8 Camaro ran 236.8 mph in willowdale raceway on November 16th 1998. It was powered by a twin turbocharged ls1 v8 rated at 887rwhp and its also street legal. If there were more turbo kits available for the ls1, it would be one of the most potent engines ever built.
This Camaro will beat that Supra and this Supra will beat that Camaro. With the right work, any car can beat any other car. I, ve got a '79 Chev Impala 4-door that looks like a feakin taxi, 6 grand and a summer of work later I've got a Beast with damn near 500 hp and 500 lbs of torque that eats up most supras and comaros (straight line). You have to look at the money involved at taking either of these cars and tuning them up, and what you want them for. The chevy will have you winning off the line and passing on the highway for cheaper than a supra and a supra will nail you in the corners if your doing some kind of idiot street racing. It is all about what you want and what your willing to pay. Chevy rules!
OK when reality strikes all of you must realize that given enough money any of the cars will smoke the other. As for stock, (even though iv'e never owned a foreign made car "import") I have to admit that the Supra will in fact have better times than a stock camaro, corvette, mustang etc. Period. I have just recently sold my 1990 L98 corvette and bought a 99GT stang. Trust me these cars don't always live up to their names. I smoked a Corvette identical to the one I sold and then turned around and got beat by a V-tech Prelude. So lets face it until everyone starts riding around without their hoods you will never know who will beat who, and even then some of you still won't.
Uhhh... chill out guys... it's a 96 Twin Turbo... manual transmissions weren't even offered that year. Doh!
The toyota supra leaves an honda civic far away.
Well stock for stock with good drivers in them the Camaro wins. But theres always someone with more money, more horsepower, and more skill. Supras are nice cars, but these cars arnt for drag racing there track cars and the camaro takes it there also. CHEVY THE HEARTBEAT OF AMERICA.
Yeah... Not really. Do you know what the JUN Toyota Supra is? Elvis drives it (inside joke). This things 2jz-GTE power plant throws down 1,300 horsepower. I'll say it again, one thousand three hundred horsepower my bro. It broke the land speed record for a street legal car on the salt flats in Nevada at 252.9 miles per hour. I don't see any street legal Camaro's that can do 252 miles per hour, or for that matter see them with 1,300 horsepower either, do you. I didn't think so.
Ya Dead Homie.
The supra is an amazing car. The camaro is just as amazing. I have seen big boost supras destroy many cars, but I have also been in forced indution camaros that have pulled on supras past 150 mph. I also seen corvettes take 1st and 2nd at supra events. Both powerplants have their pros and cons. But make no mistake about it, he or she with the biggest bank account will more than likely win. As for the older cars 80s chevys they werent really fast, so a Turbo car beating a stock or mildly modified like a vette or mustang or fbody will be the norm. But a car that is built to run hard is a different story. Supras are the only import that I really like and the 3000gt vr4. Also high horsepower is what gives you the edge on the freeway, but qautermile is where you need tourqe to get out of the hole. Corvette and Camaro owners respect the Supra, but sometimes people who are into the Supras {not owners} tend not to respect american cars. The ls1 when turbod is superfast, i haven't seen one lose to Supra yet. plus the imports have more turbo goods going for them. I would like to see someone supercharge a supra and see how the engine reacts to that kind of boost. so in short don't put one car down. in the end its just opinion not fact fellows. thanx 4 reading Go highperfomance camaros, vettes, supra, mustangs so on.
I like fast cars. But people who think supra is the fastest is kids stuff. (well let's face it- supra is for kids- not pro) Take your supra to "World street nationals." Your car must be street legal or else you can't race. I've never seen a supra over there because all cars are V8's and some can do over 200 mph in a 1/4 mile about 7 sec. So let's see if all you supra fanatics can say something after you race your car over there- everyone will just laugh at you-sorry truth hurts- no offense. :)
Yeah I've seen those races- I don't think any import cars can beat those monster v8's. There's no way a supra can compete over there- there's just no match.- Sorry that's the truth--I'm a former supra owner now a v8 man. Sorry guys - just can't beat big block v8's. : (
Supras are no.1, bar none. You can easily build a 1000HP supra that's still street legal, with a single turbo, and will kill any redneck mobile, AND still be reliable. I owned an 85' corvette for over 7 years. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice car and all, but is def. not reliable compared to a Supra. AFter owning a twin turbo supra I will never buy another sports car, esp. American crap. I keep it stock because it handles well and is the most reliable, and it beats 99% of the cars out on the road.
A 1000 hp supra is no match to even a 600 hp big block v8. Can a supra go up to 8000 hp? No, only v8's can up to that high- because it has a bigger displacement. Supra is only 6 cylinder and does not have enough torque. Supras are for people who don't know the capability of a big block v8. Also if Toyota is durable (maybe for median income family use), howcome it never won 24 hour Lemans race? (never) Because it is not heavy duty like the v8's. Toyota tried many year to compete with Nascar (because they never qualify- too slow) and when it finally qualified, it blow up after 4 laps? Is that what you call durable? Also they entered funny cars- finally- but they just copied the American V8's- they never won any race at all. Toyota is an economy car company and their cars can't be used for heavy duty use- it's an econo box- wanting to be sporty. TRD is an all Amercan Company- all are American Engineering- just funded by Toyota. My uncle works over there that's why I know. Don't get me wrong I also like Supras- because I used to own one and later sold it to my nephews (19 yeas old). So bring your 1000 hp supra to "world street Nationals" so you'll see if your car can even compete with over 200 mph 1/4 mile street cars- v8's of course. Do the math- 6 cylinder = small displacement- also it has turbo lag unlike v8's or v10's. So stop bragging about you supra untill you race it over there. Also can you match 1985 celica with a 1985 vette? You guys have to match the same years- don't be idiots- like what people say- supra is for teens and people who never went to the world street nationals. Sorry truth hurts, but no offense- Just try to race over there and you'll learn your lesson. :) And for sure you'll stop bragging about your supra's- because you won't have a chance. Lastly, just get the video of the races at pepboys and you'll se what I'm talking about. (world street nationals video- if you can't attend the race.) I'm a Mechanic for drag cars that's why I know. Supra's are for irresponsible teens racing on weekends on the public roads. Very immature racing... Take it to the race track! See you there!
