New sump gasket was needed at 64000 miles.
Having problems at the moment with condensation causing the oil to mayonnaise, the vauxhall garage say this is common (i don't believe them).
Car drives well.
Handling is very good.
The interior is pretty comfortable.
I have the same car - and the same 'problem' with mayonnaise (but this doesn't harm the oil). I suspect that the garage were in fact correct.
I also had the same problem with the oil and it was found to be a weeping head gasket, but it took a year to find it and the dealership said the same and it took the AA to find it. Have it checked out!!
I am a technician, previously employed by vauxhall. Also owning a 99 registered astra. My car is fine and I have come across this problem many times in the past.
My colleages and myself have found that this is caused by either lack of servicing or just short journeys not allowing the engine to warm up and get rid of the condensation within the crank case. Thus causing a wet oil cap and mixing with oil making 'mayonnase'.Give your car an oil change using an engine flushing solution and make sure you fill it with good quality oil.eg.mobil 1 or bp visco 7000.that cheap nasty stuff mite lube your engine, but it won't make it last. Look after your car and your car will look after you.
