2000 Volkswagen Beetle from North America

Faults:

I have had too many electrical problems with this car! I am at the point where I want to sell it, and just get something that will not break every other day. Many of my problems are the same as what I have been reading:

1) Window switches have broken off, now I cannot even open my window.

2) The light went out on the middle section of my controls... so at night I can no longer see what I'm setting the settings to.

3) Something is wrong with my locks. I press lock, and the car beeps telling me it is locked when in fact it's NOT. Along with this problem, the alarm goes off because the locks are messed up at random times.

4) Headlights are always blowing. Approx. at least once a month.

5) The newest problem: The car is STUCK in park and I got stuck at a gas station in Park, because the switch was apparently bad or malfunctioning. It would help if I could actually drive the car!

I was so excited when I got my new bug, now I just want it off my hands... I will probably end up selling it for less than its worth just to get it away from me! =(

2000 Volkswagen Beetle 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Regrets for the purchase of a Beetle

Faults:

I have replace the water pump 3 times and it just went out again. It costs $400.00 each time.

General Comments:

I have already replaced the head light bulb on the driver side. I replace 3 water pumps going in for another one. The radio only works when it is cloudy outside. As soon as I purchased the car the moon roof broke and the dealership said they were not responsible because it was not under warranty. I bought the car mainly because it had low miles. I drive about 55 miles a day 4 times a week to work. (Strictly highway)

2000 Volkswagen Beetle 2.0 from Malaysia

Summary:

Wonderful car to own and drive... just be prepared for the costly maintenance..

Faults:

The leather on the seats are worn out and nothing short of refurbishing it can get the stains out...

The carburetor has to be changed a few weeks after buying the car...

The engine over-heated, the mechanics at VW Cars couldn't figure out what was wrong with it...

Crusing at low speed, the gear change isn't smooth...

General Comments:

The car handles quite well at corners, I'm surprised at how well it handles...

I'm a smoker, so the VW is an awesome car cause no residue of cigarette smells or ash remains in the car if I smoke while the windows and sunroof are opened...

The car attracts attention, unlike my Volvo... a relatively rare car (but more people are buying it) in Malaysia...

Panoromic view... I've not experienced the so called "blind spots" that most other VW Beetle owners complain about (guess I'm either sitting reclined enough or I'm just oblivious to it)

It's surprisingly roomy at the rear (with exception of headroom)... my Audi A4 and my brothers BMW E46 Coupe isn't as comfortable at the rear as the VW...

It's a very well built car overall... my dad was impressed with the VW driving experience that he bought my mom a VW Passat...

2000 Volkswagen Beetle from North America

Summary:

Very HIGH repair costs!

Faults:

My little Beetle...

I love it, but cannot afford the repairs. Since purchasing the car I have spent over $3,000 in repairs, which include the following:

* Repaired the sun roof.

* The car got stuck in park, and I had to get it towed to a local dealership, and have a sensor replaced to get it out of park.

* Replaced the oil pan & several gaskets.

* Replaced air fuel mixture valve & oxygen sensors.

* Replaced the car battery.

* Numerous small repairs such as blinkers, headlights & windshield wipers.

And I currently still have the following problems:

* The drivers window decides not to go down sometimes.

* Sun roof is broken again.

* Body parts are loose. They need to be tightened.

* Tires need to be realigned.

General Comments:

Despite all of the maintenance costs, there is a strange part of me that really still loves my car. I still have the ridiculous hope that it is suddenly never going to act up again!

It handles like a dream & is fun to drive.

I like how the interior is set up, and find the car to be quite comfortable.

Would I ever buy another Volkswagen again? Probably not. But I am having trouble parting with mine.
