General Comments:

We were really looking forward to this car. I've owned five VWs prior to this one and loved them all. What a dissapointment! It is a serious piece of crap. Bad build quality-period.

Too bad because it handles and performs reasonably well. When it works we like it, but we can't count on it.

You don't have an LX - it's either a GL, GLS or GLX.

2001 Volkswagen Beetle GLX 1.8 from North America

Summary:

Breaks down, but I love it

Faults:

Electrical Failure at 4,000 miles all the way to 10,000.

Brake Switch Jammed at 4,000 miles.

Air Bag went on at 7,000 miles, but went off.

Check Engine Light went on at 6,000 miles and had to go to dealer to turn it off.

General Comments:

I love my cute looking car. Its cute its compact its fast you can feel the acceleration when you drive it. Its good for the highway or pleasure trips. The brakes wear out after 10,000 miles. Its hard to stop! People in the back hit their heads a lot. They are very uncomfy back there and the dome design is HORRIBLE. The comfor level is so low! Nonetheless I love my car and if I lost it I would buy another one.

2001 Volkswagen Beetle GL from North America

Summary:

Very nice car, with a lot of personality

Faults:

The only think that has gone wrong with my car since I have had it was the right headlight went out, which was pretty easy to fix without taking it anywhere.

Sometimes when I go to turn my car on the key doesn't want to turn very easily, however, after messing with it for a little while it turns. I think this might have to do with the position the steering wheel is in, though.

Other than that I can't complain about anything else going wrong with the car.

General Comments:

I absolutely love my car, I have owned it for a while now and I still love driving it. I think it drives wonderfully, the manual transmission is very easy and very smooth to drive. I also love the stereo quality and speakers. I think Volkswagen put a lot of thought into the comfort of this car; I drive about 500 miles a week and I have to say I don't think I could make it without the comfort of this car.

However, I must say, the cup holders, and sun visors need to be changed. You can't fit anything except a can of soda into the cup holders and the sun visors don't block any sun, you might as well not even put them down.

Overall, this is the best and most fun car I have ever owned and I plan on buying a new convertible beetle when I graduate from college. Thumbs up to Volkswagen.

2001 Volkswagen Beetle GLX 1.9L TDI from North America

Summary:

VW needs to get their quality fixed ASAP>

Faults:

The first warning should have been all dealer service receipts in the glove box. They were all "minor" electrical issues so I paid no attention.

After market fuel filter prevented the car from starting.

At 55,000 miles I went to have the timing belt replaced. It was due and the car had been running poorly. Turns out the fuel injection pump was "defective". Even though it was deemed defective the dealer would not help with the $1800 service. If it had happened at 50000 miles it would have been covered.

All other replacement parts and service have been expensive.

General Comments:

Very fun to drive. I love the turbo and it stands out. My kinds love their "bug car"

The gas mileage is incredible. I can never remember the last time I had to fill up.

Because of the cons I am selling the Beetle and going Japanese. There is a lot to be said for reliability.
