1995 Volkswagen Jetta GL 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Such a sweet ride!!

Faults:

The breathing tube broke which led to an oil leak.

A few minor plastic pieces broke.

General Comments:

The car is a sweet ride, handles bumps like a champ. Maneuvers like a dream.

She might be old, but runs like she just came out of the factory. I couldn't have dreamed of a better ride.

I was quite surprised to find that it is very spacious in the cabin and trunk.

I would definitely recommend this car, well any VW for that matter to anyone.

1995 Volkswagen Jetta GL lll from North America

Summary:

This has been a reliable car overall

Faults:

Front driver door doesn't open from the outside.

Passenger door doesn't stay closed, the lock to keep it closed does not work.

The interior plastic around steering column has broken.

Has had a couple of bad oil leaks, replaced oil sending unit and O ring.

The oil dash light is always on and beeps constantly. Can't find the sensor to stop the beeping.

Has trouble going into second gear, especially in cold weather.

Replaced back bearings.

General Comments:

Overall the car is quite reliable. It has many miles on it and starts every time. It needs general TLC and the oil light beeping is the most annoying problem, (if you know how to stop this please tell me). The plastic used for door handles and dash seems to be low quality.

1995 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 from North America

Summary:

Fast, fun, simple, but sophisticated!

Faults:

The thing that bothers me the most is the left side trim falling off, I need to find a new one to replace this. Also the vacuum pump for the door locks make a noise for lets say 30 seconds, got to replace that!

General Comments:

I really do love this car, it is great!! Very comfortable, fun and very fast for a stock engine! The only thing I frown upon is the gas mileage, I am constantly putting gas into it, but to me it is worth it. My first VR6 and definitely not my last. Love the trunk space!!

1995 Volkswagen Jetta GL 2.0 from North America

Summary:

A mechanics nightmare

Faults:

Struts went at 120,000.

Interior plastic trays have all broken. This car doesn't have a glove compartment so VW put plastic dishes or trays around the seat for you to put items. Bad idea.

Recently replaced all the cooling system hoses. 155.00US very expensive for hoses. The cooling system hoses are sections of hoses that are vulcanized together.

General Comments:

This car is a 2.0 Automatic and although it is cute. The engine is constatntly struggling to move it down the road.

The car is not as efficient as one would think. I manage to get 28 MPG on the highway which in my opinion is poor for a car this size with a 2.0 L motor.

The engineering behind this car horrible. VW designed this car to be repaired by the dealer only with dealer only parts and it truly shows. I have been working on cars for over 15 years and believe that this is the worst car I have ever worked on.

Your car gets 28 miles per gallon with an automatic and you think that's bad? I think that's pretty good.

And you spent $155 in repairs and it has 130,000 miles, and it needed new struts at 120k? And that to you is a mechanic's nightmare? If that's all it's needed, that to me doesn't sound like a big deal at all. The plastic trays that are broken? That's not a mechanic's job, nor does it affect the reliability of the car.

I do have to agree though that little engine with the auto transmission is a wimpy combination. The same engine with a 5-speed manual is a blast to drive.

I would say this would be a mechanic's dream. They ARE trying to make money after all.
