All should know - and you can confirm this by looking at the window sticker of a new X-type at your dealership: Automatic transmission made in Japan ... It has a highly reported frequency of failure in both the Jaguar X-Type and the Land Rover Freelander ... I had one replaced in my Freelander, that's why I was sure to buy my X-type with a manual transmission (Getrag MTX75)
