"Dodge is better off melting this car down and making pop cans out of it!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Head gaskets on the motor went.

Leather interior started to pull apart.

Exhaust system needed replacing.

Transmission went due to a blown seal.

Ball joints got very loose.

After engine was fixed there was consistent over heating problems.

Engine knocked real bad, Dodge refused to do anything about it.

The power window on the driver's side went.

Fuel injectors had problems soon after the head gaskets were fixed.

Alternator got really weak and needed rebuilding.

Chrome on the mag wheels started to peel.

The ride was extremely uncomfortable.

General comments?

This car would of been a super car if the dealer would have just fixed things right and not been so up tight. I'm sure lots of cars have there problems, but they should not have this many at under 10,000 km.

This car had never been abused, it was just a lemon from the start. The 450hp sounds nice, but when you are only getting 10m/gallon you might think of buying a Corvette. I now own a 2001 Corvette Z06 and a 2000 Hummer. I think that the Corvette may not be as fast, but it sure hasn't sat in the shop for more than half of the time I have owned it like the Viper.

Dodge is notorious for giving the worst customer service. Everyone I know has had terrible experiences with Dodge.

First of all, it's a Dodge Viper. If you want gas mileage, go buy a Honda Civic. You buy a RACE CAR to race it, not to sit there and criticize the gas mileage, or uncomfortable ride. You said if these things were fixed it would be fine. Of course it would have. This car, in the owners manual, demands a required inspection every 10,000 miles or every year. Which ever come first. Did you know this?

And about the guy in the comment. Do you own a Dodge? Have you ever had to have one serviced? Then don't say Dodge has bad service. It's not Dodge, it is the dealer who services the vehicles.

Neither of you deserve to drive such a prestigious automobile. Go buy that Honda Civic and leave the Vipers to real drivers.

Hi there your rambling on about gas mileage! you may be getting 10m / gallon, you want to try and fill your car up in the uk and and then you will know about fuel consumption and costs!. at 74 pence per litre on average it costs about £3.20p per gallon in the uk!!! Where as in america it would cost about £6 to fill the tank where as in the uk it costs about £40 - £50 its like be hit with a bat each time I fill up and I only have a golf gti which has a 1.8 litre engine!!!

Well I have a 2002 Z06 with 13,500 miles. The car is only 8 months old. The tranny has had 5 rebuilds, and the rear has had 3. I got a lemon here.

The reason why I am writing this is regardless of what car you have there will be a small % of them that will have problems. I am not to happy with the problems the car has had, but that is just the way it goes. It is not any ones falt. MY ZO6 is a lemon, bottom line. The dealer has fixed it every time. Needless to say I am buying a Dodge Viper GTS. The Z06 and I just are not working out. The Z06 is the best bang for the $. We all know that. I will own another corvette in a few years. I hold nothing against GM.

I may try the C6 when it comes out.

To sum this up. I agree with the comment made here by another writer. Work with a good car dealer, and if the problem keeps coming back, lemon the car, sell it, or just trade it in.

A Viper, is a Viper... I mean COME ON! Whining about it??? You must be doing some Pretty rough stuff to get it to fall apart like that... If I had $100,000 for a car, I'd at least be grateful to have one. Viper is my dream car. So don't take it for granted!

OK people, give the man break, he said it wouldn't have been so had if Dodge hadn't given him so much trouble, I agree with him whole heartedly! I myself had a new Dodge Ram 4x4 Quadcab Sport (granted-not a Viper) but after monthly visits to the dealership with "could not duplicate problem" I ran down the interstate with my foot to the floor and fighting to make 30 m.p.h.for the last time. I had enough of their "could not duplicate" and now I am pleased with the customer support of Ford, Thank you very much... Let the man breath because Dodge Dealer support has to be the worst in the buisness!

Sorry, I don't believe that you had all these things go wrong. I was skeptical, until I got to the alternator failing. Chrysler alternators are some of the best in the business. That's when I really got skeptical. Not sure what your motive is, but I'm not buying your review. Sounds like a false review written by a sour grapes Corvette owner.

To the fellow with the first comment...

Why do you complain about gas mileage in a 450 hp Viper, yet drive a Hummer??? There is really no logic to your argument. I am sorry to hear of your problems, but this is not the norm. Perhaps changing dealers would have worked. If I am not mistaken isn't the t-56 Borg-Warner tranny shared with the Vette also? I really think you have a lack of appreciation for sportscars. Anyone who even thinks about saying "it should be melted down to a pop can" confirms to me he has no appreciation for true sportscars.

I think the responses above confirm it.

I think this review is false. I have owned 2 Vipers, and I know 1st hand that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the chrome to peel off the rims, as there is no chrome! They are polished aluminum.

You know what... I studied human behavior in in my 17 years of schooling... Now why would you put blown head gaskets at the top and then halfway down the list you would go back to that and say that the fuel injectors were messed up... IMO this guy is a troll, but if he is not it sounds like you thought that the Viper was a ford escort... How many times did you change the oil in the Viper? What about the tranny fluids? And what about cleaning your fuel injectors? Also what was wrong with your exhaust... doesn't Viper have a rep for making great cars and car parts?

BTW; I agree with the chrome stuff. THE WHEELS ARE POLISHED~

You "viper guys" get so worked up any time something bad is said about a viper. He wrote a "review" and that's all it is. Try putting yourself in his position and try to think how you'd feel if your car was always in the shop instead of picking at EVERYTHING HE SAID including the ORDER in which he said them to discredit his review.

Cars have problems, get over it. I'm just glad my 2002 Z06 hasn't had any. HAHA.

His negative review would be valid if he had his facts straight. What did he put this car through to generate the so called problems he had. It seems obvious that he didn't have a viper since it would be difficult for chrome to peel off polished aluminum wheels. Anyone that would complain about the gas mileage after buying a viper needs their head examined. For a car that goes from 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds and gets mileage range of 12 to 20 miles per gallon is a result of great engineering. My 98 R/T 10 on an average gets 14 mpg. My 70 Charger R/T guzzling 440 gets 10 on the highway and about 6 around town. If you are a true enthusiast that wants to drive cars with real performance, gas is never an issue until you start to run cam 2 at $4.00 a gallon. Even this is nothing to complain about when you compare a high performance car to a speedboat.

A Dodge Viper can never ever be called a race car, because it isn't. It has a truck engine. I know of a few 2.0 litre cars (standard) that can destroy Vipers in a straight line, not to mention the corners! I know of Honda Civics that can destroy Vipers too.

All right who is this guy? You know of 2.0 liter cars that beat a viper. Name one stock car that can even come close with that kind of displacement. You can tune anything to be fast if you are a competent mechanic. (See blue-printing of smallblock 101 if you are confused) Think about the potential behind a 8.0 liter (or 8.3) engine. Get a grip and get a clue.

Yeah sure - standard 2 litres and Honda Civics that can destroy Vipers. Yup. Mate, I understand that when you're on your hands and knees on the lounge carpet racing Hot Wheels cars things can really heat up. I suppose your pink Vacation-Barbie Winnebago beats the Viper in a straight line too? And then jumps right up onto the coffee table - whoa - dude! Screeech! Wanna go for a ride Ken?? Brrrrmmmmm.
