I purchased this car in 1996 it was a buy-back. The muffler was rusted at the time and I asked them to replace it. I found out later they had just spray painted it. The brakes started squealing about 1 week later. They said nothing was wrong until the warranty was up then I needed new brake pads and cylinders. The car bottoms out if someone is in the back seat. It shakes over 60 m/hr and wind whistles through windows. Recalled in 1997 for steering column, new battery in 1999, new starter in 1999, 4 oil leaks: a gasket, a hose, the seal and a rusted out oil pan. Paint bubbled and fell off in 1999. (There is no rust just a bad paint job).
It's definitely buyer beware where the Neon is concerned. This car has been a lemon for me since I drove it off the lot. No one at Dodge seems to think it unusual that I have spent thousands of dollars fixing a car that isn't even 5 years old yet. My advice: If you are looking at a Neon DON'T!
Definitely do not buy a Neon because I have had radiator problems from day one. When I bought my car in 1999, they had to replace the tires, brakes, muffler, and antenna. That should have been a warning, don't ask me why I bought it.
Hi, I bought my Neon new in 95' and I'm sorry to say that I have had the exact same problems as you have. Head gasket, wind noise from the drives and passengers window, and at least 26 other problems with it and I've got all the work sheets on all of them LOL.
As of last week my new addition to my car is that all the paint has decided to call it a day and leave my poor little car. The roof, trunk, and hood after one winter car wash has peeled off. I have written to Chrysler Canada and have once again been pawned off to the dealers, big waste of time.
I'm sorry to hear about your car and if wanted I can send you a slighty ripped up 2001 Dodge magazine, which was my response from Chyrsler Canada. Good luck with your car.
