The car has needed a new water pump and belt, oxygen sensors, cam position sensor, computer chip, fog lamp, recalled for engine mounts.
The car is quick, agile, fun to drive, and very attractive looking. It has had occasional mechanical problems, but the car's performance makes up for the dislike of mechanic bills. It easily puts away Beamers and gives the Mustang a run for its money, and it seats the whole family.
Just curious about the "supercharged" statement since these cars weren't supercharged. Did you add it aftermarket? How much? Whose supercharger? Was the performance increase worth it?
Thought the engine is not really supercharged, the intake acts like a supercharger, giving a mild boost as the secondary intake runners open, this effect is sometimes confused with "supercharging".
I have a 94 Emerald color SHO. I got it in June of 2000 and have had it since. Since then I have had to replace 2 front tires, a brand new alternator, and a $2300 60,000 mile tranny.
The car when bought had 114,200... now has 116,330. I wouldn't trade this car for anything. It has the Yamaha 225hp 24V DOHC engine. And I take very good care of it. It has all the options, plus another amp in the back for the sub woofers (if I get them).
It is in its first winter, handles great. But now the alignment is drifting to the right. So, there is something else I need fixed when spring comes. I still say not bad for a first car. Especially when I beat my uncle's 96 Vette (V8 MIND YOU).
I had bought a 93' ATX SHO w/99XXX on the odometer and man was I impressed... The car was fast!!! Real fast.
The only problem was it was very unreliable... I guess that is what I get for buying with 99xxx on it. But I loved the car dearly and definitely want a 95 ATX, but right now I am looking at a 96 Talon TSi.
One other thing about the car when you get over 100xxx its value is decreased by nearly half. If you are a younger person looking for reliablility and have a small pocket book, don't buy it. The plug wires are $200 alone, and you have to pull the intake off.
I had many problems with the rear brakes.
The fuel system was all messed up and the NEW AC system flywheel seized up causing my belt to burn up and break.
If you are going to buy an SHO pull off one of the plug wires and check for oil in the plug wells, if there is, don't buy the car, it needs a lot of work trust me.
I was 18 when I bought the car and even though I loved it I still regret it because it is so expensive to maintain and to replace parts for. IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUY ONE TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC AND HAVE IT CHECKED OUT FIRST, IT WILL BE THE BEST INSURANCE THAT YOU CAN BUY INSTEAD OF BUYING AN SHO THAT HAS BEEN BEATEN UP.
I have had my 1994 Ford Taurus SHO for about two years. It has about 180,000 miles. We have had to replace the
power steering pump and oxygen sensors. At this time I am experiencing a no start when warmed up. It cranks, but no fire. After a short while will run fine no other symptoms. Have replaced plugs and fuel filter.
Any suggestions 08 04 2004.
Hey, I just got a '95 SHO and I was going down the street, then all the sudden the service engine soon light came on and it died. I tried to start it back up, nothing. A few minutes later it started right back up. Same thing?
To the guy with the no start, but crank fine problem had the same thing drove me nuts it's the fuel pump I guarantee it.changed mine and then drove 3.000 on vacation
I currently have a 94 sho atx. we got it for $455 with 103k and a wasted tranny. We had a friend that knew a friend that ran a trannsmission shop and specialzed in sho's so with a 1600 dollar bill they rebuilt it and installed a stage 1 shift kit from B&M and a high stall torque converter. Since then, the car now has 112k and so far I've put new O2 sensors, DPFE sensor (that check engine light made me) water pump, sepentine belt and timing belt- it's a good idea to do the timing belt around 120k. so all together, 455 for the car, 1600 for the tranny and about 700 for the other stuff- total that out its about $2800 which is slightly less than KBB. now it needs new tranny coolant lines : (but guess what?
I'm into it less than it's worth and the fact that I consistantly ran a 15.6 second quarter mile (its rated at 16.3 with the auto) makes me wake up every day and look out my window to it and say: hey beautiful. want to go somewhere?
Enjoy your SHO's guys, there one hell of a car.
DSTYLES.
I was just wondering where I can get performance parts for my 94 SHO. I've been looking, but haven't had any luck.
I bought a 94 Taurus SHO new. I still have it. It has 74000 miles on it. It's been a great car. No trouble whatsoever.
