Absolutely Nothing.
This car is very quick. It has got quite a big engine for it's size and weight.
Very carefully chosen gear ratios.
Very spacious and comfortable for its size and weight.
Economic and environmental friendly.
Very reliable, which proves the expertise of the Japanese cars and Mazda.
All I did to the car is tuned it a little speedier and inserted a sporty set of alloys and wider tires.
The above resulted in better grips when it comes to cornering, better acceleration due to more tire friction and certainly a more sporty look.
Initially this is not a sports car, but it only needs very little modification to make it a very sporty car.
Raced it against Honda Civic 1.6L 16V Honda Prelude 20L Turbo, Peugeot 206 XT, Toyota Starlet 1.5 16v and got the better of them especially in 1st - 3rd gear acceleration and cornering.
This is probably due to its small size and light weight and the magnificent Mazda made 16V on a 1.3L engine.
This car performed better also because of less wheel spin.
My next project on this car will be light side-skirts and possibly rear spoiler.
I am only 20 years old and my sports racing heart is in love with this car.
I will probably never think about getting a different model.
This is also because it's a family gift for my 20th birthday, since my last model, newly owned, gave me loads of trouble when it came to reliability and had to sell it for a low price.
Hey I agree. I have the i.3 auto. Though mine looks sporty because of the Mazda speed body kit. Front bumper kit, Rear bumper, Headlight covers, And 2 spoilers one mounted to the roof the other on the boot. Oh yea it also has a rage pro system back box and blue neons to match the car.
Just one question what size of alloys did you install on your Mazda. as the standard ones are only small 13". And id like to install 15"+
I also have 94 mazda 121 what sort of things can you do to it? How big can the wheels be.. any thing you can tell me about the car would be good thanks.
Sorry I meant 185 wide 13"
thanks again

I bought my mother a 121 in Hong Kong 6 years ago and the fuel economy is pretty awful.
I get an average of 31MPG in any situation it seems - this is the 1.3 16v Automatic.
Is there anything I can do to improve fuel economy or performance (it is a bit sluggish too!).
All my mothers previous Automatics were at least 10MPG more economical (Honda Civic, Nissan Sunny etc)
Of anybody has any info on tuning and other things to sort out the economy please e-mail me at gav_davidson@hotmail.com put Mazda 121 in the title please as it all goes to the junk folder if the address is unknown :)
Regards.
Gav :)
Well, I have a Mazda 121 1994, and recently installed a set of 16" wheels, with 205/45 toyo tires.i`ve had no troubles with it. I had to install 1cm wheel spacers between the rear brake drum and the wheel. it handles better and more sporty, i`m planning to get a set of 17`s or 18`s, and change the engine. mine is the 1.1 liter version, so I don't get striking acceleration numbers. planning to get a 1.3, 1.5 or fuel injected 1.6. but I can't find any spoilers for it. if someone can tell me where to find the plz mail me... jvl1@hotmail.com.
Hi people,
I fully agree.. The Mazda 121DB (Bubble) is an awesome car. I have a few contacts for mods to this car so if people would like to know, e-mail me at jeff_haebich@hotmail.com and I can point you in the right directions. I am also after as many photos/pics of the 121DB to be published on my web page, so please pass on any website/ photos/pics/ anything 121ish.
I belive swapping the 1.1/1.3/1.5 for the B6 or BP engine has been done..
I would like to know where I can find items such as a front and rear spoiler and side skirts for the Mazda 121DB (bubble). A website would be muchly appreciated. You can email me with details to gothic_charge@gmail.com
Hi, I like my 121 Mazda too, but its fuel consumption is pretty bad - 9km/litre. Any way to improve it? Mine is an auto 1323 cc. I also like to know about parts and modification tips? Email me @ globiznet@gmail.com... Thanks!
Well, one thing to keep in mind is that traditional automatics will always reduce mileage in any car, especially four cylinders.
What is probably happening is that you are stomping on the gas (I would) to accelerate each time since the it takes a while (versus a manual) for the car to respond. Plus there is the added weight of the automatic mechanicals.
All this will reduce fuel consumption.
Hi, another solution is to clean the carburettor. However you should have this done at an approved Mazda Mechanic or else (if you are from Malta) you should take this car to Gasan. Make sure that the tyres are inflated at the right and accurate level, and also make sure that the Silencer does not have any leakages. Silencers are easily repaired, and a complete silencer should not cost more than Lm 25.
Hi, thanks for your feedback. Do you know of any known workable mod that I can do to the 121 to help reduce fuel consumption? I don't fancy more power to my 121 but I want to save on fuel instead. You can reply to globiznet@gmail.com. Thanks.

I have a Mazda 121 Bubble 1995 Auto and it is a fantastic first car. I say this as it is very fuel efficient, is easy to drive, and have had no problems with it thus far.
I have a Mazda 121 1500 Automatic. It is a very reliable car and has got a surprising amount power for what it is. Fuel economy is pretty average, I get 10L/100. It handles well and it is very easy to park due to its size and my only complaint is that the HOLD button no longer works so I cannot hold the gears in place with the automatic gearbox, other than that this is a good run around car.
I have been driving a 1994 bubble (1500cc manual) for about 7 years now and have found it a great little car -- fun to drive and a great turning circle!
Fuel efficiency has been about 8L/100km for short trips (variable traffic), and 6.5L/100km on longer trips (freeway). The best I've ever done is 600km on the 35 litre tank.
