Oil leak rear main seal. Replaced radiator.
This sedan has reliably transported my family around town and country. I have never been left by the side of the road. The reason I no longer have it is due to a serious accident whereby a large truck hit the car (Nissan Maxi-ma) behind me which thrust me into the Camry in front, 3 med/large cars where written off! I sustained minor whiplash and returned to work in a week. The 240 will never win any races, but when you have your children on board are you ever in race mode? I'm not!!! A V70 has replaced it, but gee I miss the 240 simplicity, I intended to keep this car until 500 000 km, my Volvo mechanic told me it would easily have done that. My prediction for what its worth the 240 will become a 'cult car' much like the Kombi, it exudes strength and stability a perfect car for a young one learning to drive, they are very forgiving cars and can easily take a hit.
Fashion comes at a cost! 240's don't.
Get yourself a real car :)
I do not know from where this 500K thing has come. If any person keeps it that long he will eventually replace the whole car. Mine is 195k 240DL.Rust has set it though I dutifully fix the rust (The underbody is coated). Suspension has gone.
It is just an average car which has been hyped too much.Any car given proper maintenance will last 150- 200k.
The car definitely has big loading space. That's all.
Even a honda and toyota with 200K will be in the same condition

Rust is not a problem in most Volvos in Australia. However, Toyotas, due to the generally poor quality of paintwork, will rust away and this is where the 2 cars differ - quality. A 20 year old Toyota is a very rare sight. In addition Toyotas don't have the style and individuality of the Volvo 240 (but that's just my subjective opinion).
