2002 Perodua Kelisa Ez from Singapore - Comments

"Very costly mistake"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Power window jammed and rattles.

Cassette deck rattles - replaced with CD player.

Rear folding seat keep knocking when going past potholes.

Exhaust pipe vibrate too much, leaks black oil/water and knocks on bumper when passing humps.

Glove compartment broken after 6 months. (cannot close)

Fan belt makes irritating loud sound for 3-5 minutes when cold starting.

General comments?

This is simply a luxury mini car considering the price and given the poor quality (S$50,000).

The entire car vibrates too much, more like a massage chair. The front passenger door gap is double of the drivers door. Water seeps in during a car wash. Dash plastics is third world, feels like it's built to last not more than 3-5 yrs. Engine noise is very coarse, sounds like a van's engine. Fuel economy is considered poor for this segment of car.

Suspension is too soft - too much body roll when taking corners.

Suspension is too hard over potholes too so I'm confused whether it is soft or hard? Anyone care to advice over here?

Other than that it is quite powerful, but only because it is not composed (tend to feel faster than actual speed)

I'm from malaysia and I suffer the same problems with you. I fully agree that the kelisa is really a rip off. Far too expensive n those ppl are making too much profit from the car. Material used is just plain cheap- comparable to my nephew's toy car from toy's R US. Almost some plastic part is breaking every other month (inside door handle, glove compartment, air con vents, door lock, power window switch, nokia handsfree etc.) I think this car is build only for the ladies coz everything is so fragile. One thing I would like to warn all kelisa owners- the car skids very very easily in rain due to the cheap/narrow tyres and the soft suspension set up. It is really a danger and hazard and I don't know why perodua is willing to make more money at the expense of its customers. So many of my female frends have crashed during a rain and they don't even know it is not their fault (the wheel locks even at under 40kmh when braking). This car would have failed safety standards set 20 yrs ago. It would be great value if the car was reasonably priced at below RM30k.

I drive a Kelisa. Nothing in it is broken yet.

So far, I have not experience any handling problem - rain or dry. It must have been partly due to my driving skill - I presume.

Hi.

I was going to buy a kelisa, but after reading your review, I'm thinking about other cars.

Thanks for the warning.

I drive a Kelisa Gx Special Edition. Engine vibrates, true, due to the 3 cylinder engine. But the trade-off is the pickup power, performance and economical fuel consumption. A 4 cylinder 1 litre engine would not vibrate, but you won't get the performance and economy. Forget about the pickup as well. Eg, the Atoz...

The Kelisa vibrates violently when idle, but it is smooth when high speed.. 100Km/h++.

Perodua gave cheap tyres, on dry surface it works just as well, come rain, it is advisable to drive very slow. If you can afford it, change the tires to a falken or something. I'm still using the originals - no money yet.

Sound proofing is something left to be desired upon. At high speeds, although the car is smooth, but it's so noisy. Also when you hit a pothole, the noise you hear feels like the world is crashing on you ;-)

But, the standard suspension is acceptable. Superb handling and very forgiving car for a first time driver. My only gripe is the tires..

My father insisted that I get the kelisa as I've just passed my license. I am very sceptical abt the car since beginning as I was told of the body is not very heavy duty. I am, however, very tempted to get it to both please my father and fit the budget. I agree with the mirror's vibration, I had a test drive and eventhough it is more powerful compared to Kia Picanto, I am gonna share these comments with my father.

Thank you.

Just got myself a 2nd hand (2003) car last month (Sept 2006) and I find the comments true. The brakes locked when I was driving on the highway yesterday, car skidded and luckily hit the kerb and didn't manage any fancy spins (luckily). Best of all the window switch broke and was told by mechanic it wilcost me up to RM 400 to get a new one. Anybody got any tips on how to fix it at lower price? Thanks - ciidiiboy.

Take his advice and get them serviced-brakes are important!!

You might get away with a good clean, adjustment and lubrication, but it sounds like the calipers needs attention.

Good luck.
