I thought I did my research before buying my 2002 Jag X type last year, it only had 23000 miles what could go wrong... first the radio, then the drivers door lock and NOW the Transmission with ONLY 30,000 miles!!! I have fought with the corp office and they are refusing to stand by their car. I was told sorry out of warranty not our problem. Glad to see a company stands behind the cars they manufactor. Dealer wants $5200.00 for a new transmission, that's just crazy!! No transmission should go with 30,000 miles! You think you are buying a good name, good car but what we bought was a junk!! The car was only worth 15,000.00 prior to the transmission going! Warning to anyone who buys one of these cars....DON"T do it!!
The 2003 X Type manual transmission. 38000 miles, needs it's third clutch. My local dealer tells me it is the way I drive... I have owned the car for one week, I can't be that bad. After doing some research it turns out that a $3000 repair, that many people have had to do two or three times before 50000 miles, is not covered by the warranty. I guess we all drive as badly as I do.
My childhood dream car, well, you know it's a nightmare. Thank god I kept my 1993 Chevy pick up with 195000 and just has a dent from Hurricaine Wilma.
My wife's 2002 X-Type 3.0 at 57,545 miles the transmission went out. Lost 3rd and fourth gear. We purchased an extended warranty on the car 5yr or 100,000 miles which was a blessing we did. Jag wanted $7,000 to replace it, and my warranty company said it could be rebuilt instead. Jag dealer does not rebuild they put one that is already rebuilt and is on the shelf $$$$$ for big bucks.
I found a transmission shop that came highly recommended and they rebuilt the whole thing for $3,250 including software updates. Sad to have this happen to a pristine maintained car. I think we should all hire an attorney and go after Jaguar for this terrible mistake they created.
I bought a 2002 in June and it was great. But the moon roof switch stopped working after about a month. The other day I had a headlight out for about an hour. What really scares me is the noise coming from the transmission and it is getting worse by the day. It was not there or it was not obvious, but I hope its not going to break. only 60,000 miles and bought it for $14,000. That probably why. Thanks.
I bought a 2002 X-type and it only had 21,000 miles on it. Now at 44,000 miles I am told I need a new throttle box 1,800.00. Has anyone else had this happen? And would this be considered normal maintenance? I asked the service manager at the Jaguar Dealership in Atlanta if this is normal with Jaguars, he said this happens with other cars as well, I said at 44,000 miles? He said some throttle boxes last 65,000 or 100,000 it all depends. On what if you were one of the lucky people that didn't get a reject?
I was shopping for a Jaguar x type after reading the comments and most of them have transmission problems. I will not be purchasing one. You all help me to make my decision.
Thanks for your help.
My 2002 X-Type had the auto trans replaced at 15000 miles. Now at 58000 miles and out of warranty it needs it again. Does anybody know how to check and fill the fluid? Also just burned out 3 headlights both sides in two months.
2004 Jaguar X type, 47,000 miles when my transmission dies. Only driven sticks all my life. Sold my last car, a Honda Accord with its first transmission at 140,000, so it is not me. Now $ 3,500 to replace it. Love the car otherwise, but leary of being stranded again when the transmission dies in the middle of nowhere late at night. Trying national customer service and then on to the Chairman. Bad design as it totaled in 45 seconds! that is not the driver! What a shame.
I own a 2002 Jaguar X-Type, at the beginning the car was great, but after a year or so the problems began, first the headlights, have to replace them almost every month, then the wipers fluid system broke, $250 for the change, then after 8 months broken again, leak from the carter, fixed, problems with the antifreeze deposit, broken out of the blue, $400.00. 3 of the door locks broken, $1,200 to fix them. And now the transmission is failing. Nice car, but the insides are poor quality. Buy another brand, save money, save time.
Have a 2002 X-Type that up until now have had NO problems with. The transmission was replaced by the dealer during the 20K servicing, although I had experienced no problems with the transmission. Now however, the car is sitting in the shop - going on three weeks - because of a transfer case failure. It is going to cost me about $5K assuming that they ever find one! Did have an extended warranty, but it will only cover about 1/2 the cost.
Have 1993 xj6 that has a roar at 38 to 55 mph. will quit if given gas, speed up, or slow down. Putting car in neutral does not make it quit roaring. Putting on brakes does not stop roar. Someone has had the drive-shaft out because of tell tale marks on the shaft. Has anyone had a similar problem and what was the cure...thanks..skipa@bellsouth.net
2002 X-Type with 63000 miles. Looks like the transmission has destroyed itself. Ridiculous.
My Jaguar 2004 X-Type lost the seal in between the transmission and transfer case. It has 56,000 miles just out of warranty. It was in the shop at Peoria Jaguar in Peoria Illinois at 49,500 miles and that same shop told me after having this issue that they had a letter from Jaguar about this seal. I have contacted the BBB, not avail, I even wrote the Executive VP of Jaguar North America and they will not foot the bill for the $1200 for the seal, because I didn't buy the car from an "Authorized Jaguar Dealer", I bought it used from a Ford dealer. Hmm Doesn't Ford own Jaguar?? Unbelievable how a luxury car company doesn't stand behind its' cars. even KIA has a 100,000 mile 10 year warranty. Do yourself a favor never buy a Jaguar, your dream car will turn into your worst nightmare. Oh by the way, I am trading mine off after a $1200 repair to the seal for a Dodge Charger. The repair shop says now that the torque converter is possible bad. Unbelievable LEMON!!
We bought a brand new 2002 Jaguar x-type in December 2002. Here we are in June, 2007 with a trashed transmission with only 36,000 miles on the vehicle. Bought the car from White Allan in Dayton, Oh who will assume no responsibility for the problem. Have called Jaguar corporate and they state that the warranty is in place for a reason and that they are simply following the rules of the warranty which is driven by the "contract" within the warranty. Sorry to be the one to inform Jaguar, but the LAW is the driving force of any contract, the contract is never the driving force of any law.
Man, I wish I wouldve read a forum like this before actually letting my mom buy her 04 x type, aftr having problems w throttle, ecu and bad tranny codes, bent rims, faulty remotes, bad headlight, stained plastic trim, loose or broken plastic parts, loose hood insulation all these ocurring on one or more ocassions. Now my mom is stuck out in Oakland, 12 hours away from home, I really liked the 5 rentals better than the jag. Shouldve leased instead of financing.
