1999 Denali. YES replace the BCM to fix all dome lamp, wiper, radio etc electrical problems. You will only have to do it once every 100,000 miles...
Clunking in drive train as someone stated; likely the slip yoke having the incorrect grease applied
also check motor and trans mounts for wear...
Replace all U-joints every 40,000 miles or so and you'll be alright!
Update on Yukon Denali 2000...Changed both front ABS sensors at US 80 each.. still a problem with ABS application by itself at low speeds.. Annoying problem as you can hit the person in front unless you're really concentrating.. I have been told to wait till the ABS resets itself!!I have a feeling that one of the rear drums is locking itself thus activating the ABS.. Is this possible? I use bendix shoes at the rear almost new.. but squeeling when hot.. Another annoying thing.. Apart from that all is working fine..OH, I forgot.. The rear seat heaters work again.. Apparently you need to have your seat belt on for it to work..!!
Hi all,
I have a 1999 Yukon with 149,000 km and I love it, but there are a few problems. I have had several instances with stalling and the wipers not working intermittently. Also today I had it in Auto 4x4 and it changed to 2 wheel on its own and then to 4x4 all within a few minutes.
I have had GM check out the stalling situation and they said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. At first it was stalling last summer when we pulled our trailer. We thought maybe it was a gas lock because it was so hot out and we had the air conditioner on, but it stalled again today at -35 after running for about 1/2 hour.
The wipers had stalled many times and it doesn't matter if it is in a heavy rain storm or you have just turned them on to quickly wipe the window. I have replaced the wiper motor twice over the last year.
Every-ones comments have been helpful, but I would like someone to reply to this if you know what to do. Thanks.
Hello...I have a 2004 Yukon Denali. The alarm went off the other day and since then, the rear doors and liftgate will not unlock. If I climb in the interior, I can manually unlock the rear doors, but the key fob will only unlock the 2 front doors (driver side and passenger).
Transmission problem is most probably caused by the actuator
on the front axle.. It needs to be cleaned.. I had my lights going on and off between 2 Hi and 4 Auto.. Now it's OK...
Fuel related problems are due most comonly to the fuel pump.. they do go.. but changing the pump is easy.. new pump is about USD 200 to buy...
1999 Denali. Has anyone had any problems with your front brakes making noise at low speeds? I Have had both rotors turned and put on new pads on the front without any luck of helping. Sounds almost like a warped rotor, but they have been turned. I am lost on this one.
Please post if you have any ideas.
I have a 99 Yukon Denali and purchased it in 2001 with 37,000 miles on it. I just hit 101,000 and the list of problems are never ending.
When I hit approximately 50,000 I replaced the brakes and was fine with that.
At 67,000 started leaking antifreeze and took 6 hours to fix the leak. Then it all went downhill from there.
I have had to do the brakes 4 times and am still not happy with them. I then replaced the fuel pump.
My heated drivers seat does not work, along with multiple electrical problems.
At 87,000 my crank kit, water pump, and well the list of parts on that job was unreal, and the job was over 3,000.00.
I have problems with my ABS and not being able to stop.
Replaced the wiper motor pump.
Recently my drivers side interior door handle broke off, and 3 weeks after replacing that... the passengers side interior door handle broke.
Have replaced 2 O2 sensors, all tune up parts several times.
I have been having hard starting problems and my battery kept draining, so replaced that and still had problems.
Yesterday was a new starter and cap and rotor, as well as my exhaust suddenly started sagging and had to be fixed.
My dash lights flicker on and off, and my pass side stereo speakers no longer work.
I have discovered that Black Electrical Tape works great to cover up constant service engine soon light.
Hi I have a 2000 yukon denali. It has 127,000 miles on it, I have some electrical problems which some of them I fixed. I replace the door bushings, Replaced the intake manifold gasket due to antifreeze leak. Both front heated seats stopped working. drivers door window stops working in hot weather, but the worse problem with these trucks are the passlock system that shuts the full off. I had this problem with my truck since I bought it. I took it to the dealer 4 times and nothing. I final ripped the dash apart to find that the wire behind the dash gauages was loose, repaired wire and never had a problem again, this is after the dealer repalce the lock sensor. then I did a tune up to find that the ear on the distribitor was plastic and it was broken off. I had to replace the distribitor. the last problem I see is the steering tightens up on the parkway due to the ajustable steering these trucks come with, but mine doesent feel right other than all that the truck runs really good and the 5.7 has good power.
Oh boy, sounds like we all have the common issues related to this vehicle. Can anyone say RECALL? I have all the usual electrical gremlins like the rest of you. It's a decent vehicle, but will never, but another one! Sloppy steering anyone? Try replacing the speed sensitive steering sensor under the steering column. Nope, didn't work for me either. Check out the forums at TahoeForum. com for lots more good info!
I have a 99 Denali, purchased in 2001, replaced the engine, it blew in 2006. I'm having a problem with the truck shaking after driving it about 30 miles. Once it cools off, I can drive it again. My mechanic is perplexed, he's checked the exhaust vapor system, replaced engine control box and replaced the coil. If you've has a similar problem, truck shakes when it gets hot, sometimes, please share your experience and/or ideas. Thanks!

I don't know much about this type of vehicle, but I found them to look very nice. I am actually looking to buy an '01 Denali at about 97k miles. Now I am not sure about buying one due to all comments that I have read. I am never looking to have to spend a lot of money on major maintenance. At least not for the price of the vehicle itself.
I have a 99 Yukon with about 171000 miles on it. No problems really except that when I put it 4 wheel drive high (I have the auto transfer case) it makes a grinding (clunking) noise whenever I turn my wheels... What could that be?
1999 Denali has had it's share of problems. At about 80k had to rebuild rear end. Currently have 113k and am having an electrical problem. It was very intermittent at first, (maybe every week or two; noticed by headlights, dash lights flash coupled with radio loss for a split second. Now, the problem has occured with loss of engine. Not a comfortable feeling on the mountain roads I drive. That was Friday night. Tonight on my way home in less than 5 miles engine killed with the above scenario four times. Lucky I made it home, getting good at shifting into neutral and restarting quickly! Calling the mechanic in the morning, any suggestions?
Thanks.
I have 1999 Yukon Denali that keeps misfiring.. the scan read random /multiple misfiring detected.. once I drive on the freeway for 5 minutes, plus I get off on city streets and it runs just fine.. once I turn off the truck and restart, it starts misfiring again... anybody had similar issues???
I have a 1999 GMC Yukon with about 135000 miles on it. Runs great, and an awesome vehicle. Everything has been maintained well with no problems other than the usual.. BUT.. can we say ELECTRICAL problems. Luckily the only thing for me is my dome override switch and lock and unlock buttons work when they want to. Other than that, this vehicle has been just great.
