I also had a problem with 03 Envoy SLT fan clutch. Researched on Internet and saw that this was a fairly common problem. I spoke with my dealership and they said that they have repaired a few, but they did not know of any recall. They said that the repair would be approximately $600. I then called GMC and told them of my concerns with the vehicle only having 40,000 miles on it. They set up a claim and told me to go to the dealer and have the problem diagnosed by them and that I would be responsible for the diagnosis fee ($89). I had the dealer affirm the problem and GMC agreed to split the cost of the repair, which I feel was fair. Total cost with diagnosis was around $280. Other than this problem, this vehicle has been very dependable so far and I still love it. The dealer told me to retain my receipt in case there was a future recall.

This fan clutch is killing me! I have a 02 Trailblazer LTZ - lear jet!! This by all means should be a recall.

When I do get it fixed, I will trade it in that day and buy a Toyota 4 runner. So much for american cars and their service.

Gary.

I have had the same problem with my 2002 Trailblazer that I bought used in 2004. It had 30,000+ miles on it at that time. Sometime within the last year, it started making the same noise described in other posts as a "jet engine". It also would not accelerate like it should. This seemed to me to happen early in the morning and also on hotter days. I described it to my husband and he noticed it too, but it was occasional at that time. This week, it got really bad and did it the entire time on my 31 mile drive to work. Then when driving home the service engine light came on. He took it to Auto Zone for free diagnostic which came back as PO495, guy there said it was fan clutch. We ordered the part today $217.99 w/tax. We have the Chilton Repair manual and my husband will be fixing it himself barring any unforeseen problems. Definitely should be a recall. BTW, it has just over 80,000 miles on it currently.

Same Fan issue as everyone here has described. Dealership confirms my 2002 Trailblazer with 39,000 miles has Fan Clutch issue and will cost $586.00 plus tax to repair. Anyone have Rick Wagoner's email address? I will buy a Japanese car next.

Similar problem as the previous posts. I have a 2002 Trailblazer with 42,000 miles. I've had very few problems with the vehicle; except recently (1) the A/C has started intermittently cycling and (2) the engine (when cold) has started to sound like an airplane. The dealer replaced the A/C Low Pressure Cycling Switch (for #1) and the Cooling Fan Clutch (for #2). Everything seems to be OK now. Looks like I didn’t waste my money buying that GMPP after all.

Same problem. Chevy '02 Trailblazer sounds like a jet taking off. It was every now and then, now the check engine light came on and it sounds like a jet all the time. We're gonna fix it ourself. There's SOOO much info on this problem that we can do it instead of paying the salary of Mechanics to fix it for 5 times the cost. Wish us luck. This will be the LAST time I EVER buy a GM car.

I own a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer LTZ. I had a ticking noise begin in 2005 while running the a/c. The noise was intermittent, so it was hard to diagnose. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it. This year again, the ticking noise is back, along with the jet engine sound. I called the dealer to see if they had any ideas as to what the revved up noise was and they advised me it could possibly be the fan clutch. I only have 64K miles on my truck and of course the warranty was out at 60K. After researching the web, I agree with the diagnosis, although I haven't taken the truck in to have it officially diagnosed. Does anyone know what needs to be done to get this on the recall list?

Just got a phone call from the dealership telling me that the fan clutch on my 2002 Trailblazer needs to be replaced for $415 and that the extended warranty that I purchased doesn't cover it. I just bought the car last year and haven't had an American made car since 1994...must've been a reason for that!

Not sure what I'm going to do now. I just can't believe how many people have had the same problem.

Same Problem with a 2002 envoy. this should have defiantly been a recall.

I too will never buy another American made car.

Had 3 Nissan's with over 300,000 miles on each.

Going back to them.

WOW! I just turned in my 2004 TrailBlazer for a check engine light that intermits, & I just got a call by my services, they said that my Fan Clutch going bad, but not making the jet noise that ya been describing, but on the other hand, I usually have my A/C or Radio on full blast, plus my hearing bad. Go Figure. Vehicle has a little over 39,000 miles on it. Thank god that my is covered thru the Extended warranty, but I still have to pay for a reprogramming of my PCM.

I just attempted to get my car inspected at a local facility only to be told that the constant "jet engine" noise that I have been hearing off and on for years, and had subsequently been told was "normal" per my manual, caused my 2002 Trailblazer to fail inspection. My engine light is stuck on on and I will need to get this fixed in 15 days or less or I will lose the money that I still had to pay for the "failed" inspection. This should without a doubt be a recall.

I just got the call from the service dept. of my Chevy dealer. I have a 2002 Trailblazer LTZ with 62k miles.

$630 for the clutch fan, and another $250 to fix- yet another problem with the 4 wheel drive.

Is this a common problem with suv's at this mileage or just with GM products?

2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer LT.

Loud fan noise, and something of a grinding type noise was happening to my truck, and Service Engine Soon light came on. Dealership called and said the were replacing the clutch fan and water pump. Luckily, I was still within my warranty, so both were covered.

I had the fan clutch issue with my 2002 Trailblazer about two years ago. I was aware of similar fan clutch complaints floating around the Internet, but I had to bite the bullet and pay the $600+ repair bill since no Recall was on record for this issue. After getting my car "repaired" I decided to file a complaint with Consumer Affairs or BBB, can't recall which. In any event, I was contacted by GM about two weeks after filing, they decided to "make an exception" and refund my money. How nice of them to give me my money back for a repair that should have been covered under Recall!

File a complaint - you should not have to pay for manufacturer error. I'm still wondering why a class action lawsuit doesn't exist for this and other Trailblazer problems - especially the '02.

I've had the same problems as everyone else with my 2002 Trailblazer, except mine has 110,000 miles. My fan clutch was sounding like a jet engine. The mechanic was stumped, and cleared to P0495 "High Fan Speed" code from the computer which triggered the "Service Engine Soon" light. The problem went away for a while, but is now back...I'm going to bite the bullet and pay the $650+ repair... Chevy needs to recall this.
