1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee review from North America
"Internal combustion we will miss you when you are gone"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Commenting on a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I bought this car used for $2500.00. When I bought it, it ran, the radio worked, the a/c did not, the heat did, it needed tires. I had the A/C repaired, complete replacement for $850.00. I got 3 Goodyear Wrangler RT tires to match the unused spare from Walmart for $300.00. I had the brake pads replaced and the drums (rear) and rotors turned. $250.00. I got a clunk in the front end and my mechanic and I diagnosed it as CV joints. New CV axles $56.00 each (not $185 at Auto store),and $75.00 each labor, I also did little stuff like HeadLights $50 (EBAY-both, not $100 each at Auto store), K&N airfilter $50, two (2) TURBONATOR's (they spin the intake air) $45.00 (both), Bosch platinum plugs,$36.00 (Walmart). I got 20 mpg on my first long distance trip (600 miles) using cruise control at 65 mph. I still have a little clunk in the front end that is ball joints, they will get done later.
I did similar maintenance to a 1997 GMC Safari and replaced, tires, A/C control unit in dashboard ($100.00),not $250.00 at Auto store, Fuel Pump ($115.00) not $350.00 at Auto store,
THIS IS MY POINT OF ADVICE TO READERS- GO TO THE INTERNET TO BUY PARTS - EBAY OR OTHERS AND YOU WILL PAY HALF WHAT THE AUTO STORE OR DEALERSHIP WANTS. PLUS FIND A MECHANIC WHO YOU CAN TRUST.
General comments?
Any car is as good as it's components and how it is driven. The greatest weakness is our ability to be sucked in by unscrupulous dealers and shops. Carpe Diem.
