1992 Ford Escort Pony Hatchback review from North America
"Better than a Toyota!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
As long as you take care of the car, you won't have any problems. Not one thing went wrong with the car since I bought it new.
General comments?
I have always owned American cars, but as my family got bigger I need a second car, so in about 1994 I decided to buy a new Toyota Corolla in addition to the Escort.
As much as I loved the Toyota, I still love my Ford Escort even more. This is one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned, so I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good small car. I no longer have the Toyota, but I still have the Escort.
The Toyota had a few problems though. I had to have the starter and the head gasket replaced. Eventually the master cylinder broke and I did not know what would happen next, so I sold it last year.
The Escort was not a comfortable as the Corolla, but it made up for that in other ways. It got better gas mileage, it was cheaper in the long run and it was more reliable.
Maybe I just got a bad car (which was not even that bad) out of a bunch of Toyotas, but my Escort will always have a special place in my garage.
