1998 Nissan Frontier review from North America
"Good except for the design of the tensioners and oil pump to distributor shafts"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I bought this car in a broken down condition. A friends mother was driving it on the expressway and when she pulled into the rest stop the car shut off. I have torn it apart and found that the lower timing chain tensioner just gave out and that in turn allowed the timing chain components (pistons and valves) to slam into each other. Almost $1,000.00 later and she is just getting back together.
I don't know why the tensioners didn't come with a racheting feature that makes them only push out. The tenstioner that Nissan used is controled by spring and oil pressure. It failed and left parts throughout the motor.
I may come back later after I've driven her for awhile.
But generally I do like the looks and feel of the truck.
