2001 Hyundai Accent GL 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Elegant car at a fraction of the price

Faults:

Nothing (just bought it)!

BUT, why is it that the Accent GL automatically comes with power mirrors, locks, and windows when you purchase one with an Automatic Transmission, but no FLOORMATS? Who sells cars without floor-mats in this millennium?

General Comments:

My first car was a 1993 Hyundai Excel, which I replaced with a 1999 Accent. I have loved the Hyundai products from the start - affordable, reliable and economical. My mother had two Excels and currently has a 96 Accent, my father had a Pony and my sister had a Sonata.

2001 has the new 1.6 engine with 106 horsepower - it is quick compared to my 1999 model, which was my only real concern with it. Love the colour, too (brand new Sand/Gold metallic).

2001 Hyundai Accent GL 1.6 from North America

Summary:

A wonderful choice for the economically minded

Faults:

No problems with this vehicle.

General Comments:

This car is definitely the best economy car that I have ever driven.

I have never had any problems with this car. I travel a lot for work and have put over 11,000 miles on this car in less than 7 months and the only service it has needed is regular oil changes and normal services.

The gas mileage is wonderful. I couldn't ask for a better daily driver!!

Car is relatively comfortable, but can seem cramped if you are on the road more than a few hours. To comfortably handle the steering wheel, you must sit farther forward than you will probably want to which causes your legs to feel cramped.

Storage area is at a maximum!! I recently bought two dressers (unassembled and in the box) and was able to fit both comfortably in the trunk with the rear seats folded down. I even still had room for groceries. How many economy cars can you do that with??

Power is sufficient. I like a powerful motor, but the 1.6 is still strong enough for an every day driver. Even driving on the hilly terrain of Ohio, the Accent has enough power to get where it needs to go. I think the manual transmission has helped in that area also.

Overall, what the car lacks in comfort, it makes up in overall efficiency!

2001 Hyundai Accent GL 1.6-liter DOHC from North America

Summary:

The monetary fuel savings and the low cost more than make up for the minor imperfections

Faults:

I found that the trunk seal was not attached securely. It comes loose every time I open the trunk.

The floor mats have an "anchor" to secure them to the floor but the "anchor" is attached to the carpet which pulls up and allows the mats to move.

The ignition is difficult to access and when you do locate it, it is sometimes hard to turn. I believe that the key might be ground wrong.

The transmission tends to engage in each gear roughly. When in reverse, be sure to come to a complete stop before even thinking of engaging drive. I will bring this to the dealers attention.

General Comments:

The car is peppy for a 1.6-liter. The acceleration from 1st to 2nd is slow but from then on is impressive.

The Accent handles turns very well with little car sway.

The seat design is good as far as preventing lateral movement but is too stiff to be comfortable for long drives.

The padding needs to be softer.

2001 Hyundai Accent GS 1.5 from North America

Summary:

A car I will drive until it blows up

Faults:

No problems at all.

General Comments:

Great car for the price I payed.

Engine is very fast sounding. You can make your car sound like you have one of those custom race cars where you can over rev your engine to get peoples attention.

Only some small things about the car I don't like.

The seats are a tad firm. Having to sit in them for 1 hour or more makes my back and feet hurt.

Pushing rear defrost button left to the hazard light button causes the FM radio to cut out.

Factory stock tape deck will not play/take any of tape adapters to connect my CD player or MP3 player to the cars sound system.

Up to 20,000 miles now. NO MAJOR (or minor) problems.. Just did a few oil changes (as recomended in the car guide) and things are fine.,. Some the gas miles per gallon has gone down a little bit (before at 300 miles on one tank vs now 250miles).. That or I drive like I'm in the indy 500 now.

How do you feel about the recent safety recall on all 2000 & 2001 accents?

2001 Hyundai Accent GL Sedan 1.5 liter from North America

Summary:

Best by for a old married dad guy

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

OK so I had to trade my main mobile for the married dad thing but.. it's not so bad the car is comfortable and roomy (for a small car) the dealership and the salesman and mostly the warranty made the sale. All I can say is if the Accent GL is as good about their cars as their front people are then I feel good about it (I just bought it today).

2001 Hyundai Accent GS 1.5 litre DOHC from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

It's just great and it has has a 5 year/130,000km warranty

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

It's a great car to drive if you want real 1.5 litre power. In Australia it's the most powerful 1.5 litre around and if you look at the Accent and the Lanos, they have the same sized motor, but the Lanos runs more like a washing machine.
