1994 Renault 19 Biarritz review from UK and Ireland
"Smooth Ride, but unreliable and expensive to service"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Oil leak developed because of a bad gasket around the sump plug.
Fuel leaks at various places.
Low fuel economy.
Hatchback key/latch broke off.
Rust around the bonnet.
Automatically locking system malfunctions.
General comments?
Bought the car from a work colleague who swore it was in great shape.
Within two months all the problems above developed.
Service costs were unbelievably high -- and didn't even fix what was wrong. Could be the dealers fault on that one.
Was averaging 30mpg which is bad for a diesel.
Once inside, the ride was brilliant, although the engine was loud on motorways.
All in all, a lemon. I hit someone in the rear last week and the rear of his car (an Accord was barely damaged) while the front end of the Renault was destroyed. Car now a write-off and waiting for the junk-yard.
