1998 Ford Contour SE Sport review from North America
"Great driver/ horrible value"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
25,000 A/C (dealer fixed under
warranty)
28,000 Overhead console cracked (dealer fixed under warranty)
36,000 Paint failure (cracked on all top surfaces. (finally Ford paid 1/2 of repaint, my total was $650.00)
60,000 Complete brake replacement to the tune of $ 860.00.
65,000 Alternator replaced/ 3 day in
dealer, along with missed 1st fix of
just a pulley being the noise.
81,000 Catalytic converter failure
1,000 over warranty, even though all previous models of this car were recalled for this problem, Ford dropped me in the grease for $1,176.00.
General comments?
I really liked the looks, size, speed, and overall feel of this car. It was a
Sport model that seemed to be the car to keep me away from imports. Too bad Ford motor company couldn't build it better. Perhaps more important, could have had better service from the dealers I dealt with. I'm a car guy and they still were dumb/jerks/uncaring.
I have had 8 cars in my life and this was by far the worst value in all.
I'm glad to have gotten rid of it.
For the cost per mile over the 63,000 miles I drove it, I could have been driving a MB and been ahead.
I traded it in just last month and.
