1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Br. review from North America
"Having the Olds emblem ahead feels like having the"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I threw out the stereo;only the radio was functional. I've replaced it with a CD-player;
The dashboard lights go on when I start the engine, that's because we messed up something when I got out
the old stereo it had a lot of wires that I cut wrong.
A radiator hose on a hot day, but I did accelerate that car hard the whole day. The passenger side door doesn't open from the outside. The top inside layer hangs/falls down as I use to drive it with the open windows.
The AC has some problems that I got to solve. The speed indicator doesn't rise into D (drive) only into N that's because I've always accelerated on the freeway until it passed way the 85mph and more than that.
It was hit in the left headlight. Minor damage. I changed one of the headlights that broke.
The shocks are getting too light. It rides like a boat, smooth, (it's fun) because of the shocks, but they don't really bother me.
General comments?
It's great. It's very big, mine is a 2 door, but it's very comfy. We squeezed in about 7 people. I like riding it on the freeway and even race with other cars. It still peels rubber. When I accelerate, it goes fast like a rocket. It has the engine of a sports car, no wonder. I did drove it fast on the freeway. and think I got to 100mph and I believe it would go more, but I would need a digital speedometer.
I got it from an elderly couple that use it mainly just for going around and held it in a garage, polished it good. The body in in good shape even the leather top. Everything was in perfect condition, the seats, interior like brand new. It does absorb a lot of gas. Depends a lot how you press the gas; you can get to 18-20 mpg. I'm in love with in. I changed the old paper speakers. I've tinted the windows and also changed the hub cabs that started to make some noise with rim-like caps. Those give it a good look that everyone on the street envies it.
I'm just a student now and it's fun riding it to school. It's long (Titanic) and hard to park in tight spaces, but I got used to it and many people wonder how can I drive such a big car. I feel safe due to its heavy body and lots of space in front of it and its big trunk. The trunk is large, but not high enough; there's some stuff that don't fit in. Basically all power buttons work : alarm, trunk opener, the windows, the power lock.
It's an classic elegant car. I wouldn't say that it's one of the best cars; once I put more miles on it more problems come. So far it's in good shape, but I'm pretty much stuck with it, 'cause I can't sell it.
I continue to polish it with pride and have fun with it. It's MY personal limo.
