1996 Hyundai Accent LSi review from UK and Ireland
"An excellent family car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
One of the fuses blew and the engine stopped working. It appeared as if the timing belt had failed. I called in the RAC and the mechanic discovered that a live wire under the dashboard was touching the steering column - which caused a short circuit to occur.
There was scoring on the steering column. The wire was encased in insulation wire and rehung. The fuse was replaced and car started first time.
Since this event, the car has been OK.
When I first got the car from the dealer, "check engine" light frequently used to come on whilst driving. However since the "repair", this problem has since disappeared.
General comments?
Generally, the interior has much to be desired, but the performance is excellent.
