1992 Chevrolet Cavalier VL review from North America
"Great safety/performance/value car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Blown head gasket at 100,000 miles.
Air conditioner stopped working at 110,000.
Dome light fell off at 120,000 miles.
Alternator blew at 162,500 miles.
When at 65mph the car shakes a little (probably a function of wheel balance)
General comments?
This car has great performance. For a 3 speed automatic attached to a 2.2L four, it really hustles the car down the road. Acceleration is fairly good. This car can easily keep up with my friend who has a '97 Civic 5 speed. The stock speaker are really good. Had to replace the front ones after they wore out, but I still have the stock back ones in. With the after market stereo, they sound great. All my friends think I have a system.
Braking is strong. It is a really great car in bad weather. Its been driven into a ditch of muddy water, and a four foot deep culvert full of snow, and took it all in stride. It leaks anti-freeze, but only in minor amounts. Safety is great too. I recently got broadsided (on the driver's side) by a large car, and was kept completely safe. All power train components are intact and fully functional. All in all, it is a wonderful performance/value package.
