2003 Peugeot 307 Touring (tiptronic) review from Australia and New Zealand

"This car generally drives well and is very comfortable, but has had some engineering issues"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Gearbox plug oil leak.

Broken internal exhaust baffle.

Opposite indicator comes on after corner completed.

Seat back trim pops open too easily.

Gearbox occasionally changes down heavily.

Brakes "pulsing", as though warped, already.

General comments?

We bought this car new about a year ago from a prominent Melbourne (Eastern suburbs) Peugeot dealer before finding out that their workshop was a grubby, backyard affair. A note of caution to you all.

A few days latter I discovered a 10cm oil puddle under the car. Unfortunately the leaking oil plug meant that the gearbox and engine needed to be split to fix the problem!

Shortly after this (about 5000km) a rattle appeared from the engine. It was a broken internal exhaust baffle. A known fault, apparently.

After a turn is completed the opposite indicator comes on. I haven't had this fixed yet as it will probably require half the interior to be tampered with and it doesn't annoy me too much.

The tiptronic in this car is generally very smooth, but occasionally changes down savagely. I don't know if this is a characteristic of Peugeot tiptronics.

I enjoy the sporty nature of this car and find it to be very practical, even transporting a 280l fridge in it last week. It has been reliable so far, but has had the quality issues mentioned above.
