1987 Toyota Camry review from North America
"Good toy for skilled do it yourself trash recycler"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
All repairs done by the previous owner were made with prehistoric tools and had been redone by me. Thanks to the inexpensive parts from junk yard, the repair cost is not high. Installed 90' Celica updated starter drive to get rid of noise during starts.
The engine is smoking on start-up due to valve seals, transmission has bumpy 1 to 2 shift cold, noisy interior (station wagon, stupid automatic shoulder belts and inner plastic door handles, failed emission components.
General comments?
Unusulally fast midrange acceleration 30 to 50 mph.
Good brakes despite drums on the rear (OEM shoes and re-build cylinders, from junkyard).
Roomy interior.
