2002 Peugeot 307 Rapier review from UK and Ireland

"Excellent vehicle with some minor niggles I can live with"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Engine oil level sensor failed shortly after purchase.

When car has been left overnight in cold weather -3C or lower, gears will not engage until engine has been running for about 4 minutes. This has been cured by me.

General comments?

Disapointed on number of visits to diagnose & repair oil level sensor. As a control engineer I diagnosed it immediately, but dealer would not listen. Not too bothered since it was a warranty job.

Stiff gears when cold solved by me greasing the Bowden cables and ball joints which were not lubricated at build.

Sound performance from the engine with in excess of 50MPG attained on a run with sustained 70-75MPH. No oil consumed. Range of tank excellent - never bother too much about keeping it topped up.

Handling is fine and feels safe, but not as much fun as my 306. Driven in snow and on ice and found the ESP and traction control a boon - it still handled well. ESP proven its worth on country lanes with mud, leaves, gravel etc. especially when pulling away and not sparing the throttle. You remain in control. Acceleration from standing is not as good as the 306 but is ample when accelerating from the 50 - 80MPH range.

Sweep of the wipers is for a left hand drive vehicle, but is not too much bother.
