1995 Honda Accord EX 2.2

Summary:

Absolutely Reliable. A Godsend

Faults:

Muffler at 70,000 miles, Engine oil seal at 120,000 miles (Honda paid for the entire repair including towing),Coolant leak at 230,000 miles, radiator at 285,000 miles, exhaust pipe at 300,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is absolutely reliable and still running today with 305,000 miles.

It has the original engine, transmission and struts. The engine only uses 1/4 of a quart of oil between changes. It passes emissions tests and still has full power. It has never had the air conditioner repaired and it blows cold. I change the oil every 3,000 miles, resurface the brakes every 50,000, change transmission fluid every 60,000, change the coolant every 60,000, new tires every 75,000 and change the timing belt and water pump every 90,000, and replace the brake rotors every 100,000.

The only thing wrong with this car is that it's not very fun to drive, but you will fall in love because you can count on it.

PS: I'm terrible with being late changing the coolant and transmission fluid. I don't blame the coolant leak and radiator replacement on Honda.

From what I have experienced and heard, the 94-97 Accords are capable of any kind of mileage. Whether it be 300,000 or 2 million miles, I have seen hundreds with over 200k.

This Accord was sold on ebay 2 weeks ago ~ 1996 Honda Accord EX 4Dr. 5 speed Manual with 520,000 original miles. One owner with all service records! All maintenance done on time and up to date! Given the year and mileage this car is in great condition inside and out! Runs great with no issues (cold a/c)!

I would not be surprised if this car goes another 500,000 miles! The owner said he had the timing belt done five times, and used GTX Castrol 5w30 oil (not even mobil 1!

I have a 95 Accord EX with only 137k miles, I am hoping for at least 200k. The engine is noisy at cold start, is this normal (maybe piston slap)?

1995 Honda Accord LX 2.2

Summary:

Pure reliability at an affordable price

Faults:

The original radiator began leaking at 197,000 miles.

The original water pump went bad at 200,000 miles.

I consider these two "problems" regular maintainece.

My only real problem; When cold the automatic transmission has a slight slip shifting into third and fourth gear. However after driving 34,000 miles the slip has not gotten any worse.

General Comments:

I'm not going to lie, I run my Accord hard everyday. I launch it over hills, drive it off road, and I go through snow like a Rally Car. A Accord's top speed is 115 mph if you're curious.

This car is amazing. After the 233,000 miles the original engine and transmission are still going strong. I change my oil every 3000 miles, and it doesn't burn a drop between change. It starts right up every time and has never left me or it's previous owner (a good friend of mine) stranded. The A/C has never been touched and it's ice cold on the hottest days.

The paint has held up extremely well, as has the interior. Most people guess that the car has 100,000 miles on it and are amazed when I tell them it has 200,000+. It rides comfortably, although it has a somewhat high level of road noise.

With gas being 3.40 a gallon right now, understand that these cars only get about 27mpg.

**UPDATE**

I wrote the original review.

In response to the above comment. My best gas mileage to date is 30 MPG. My Accord now has 263,000 miles. I still beat this car daily. Note the transmission slip has not gotten any worse. Since writing last I've had to replace upper ball joints, an inner tie rod, spark plugs, brake pads and some tires. I bottomed out in a field pretty bad last week and broke an exhaust weld. I'm going to do what I can to rig that up. The fact that this car still runs and drives smoothly is a testimate to Honda's build quality.

Unfortunately this car is not as pretty as it was last time I wrote. I've been hit by a deer and a dump truck, all doing their share of body damage. But it's still legal to drive so I'm going to keep on running this car into the ground (and a few other things I'm sure)

I'll keep you posted.

Mike.
