2001 Hyundai XG300 3.0

Summary:

Thank heavens I have another car to drive!

Faults:

Bad hesitation from a standstill or while accelerating at speed.

Service Engine light is on almost all of the time, with EGR malfunction code.

Had to be towed to dealership three times due to stalling (and would not restart).

General Comments:

This is, hands down, the worst new car I have ever purchased. Some of my complaints revolve around poor dealer service, but I also believe that this car was cursed from the moment design had begun.

Each time the car has been returned for service due to an engine service light, I've been told that the gas cap was not tight. I even purchased an OBDII code reader and had to prove all of my complaints to them.

The first time it was in for service (at 6 months of ownership), the dealership did $2000 worth of damage to the driver's side door, but did, however fix the damage after 1 month.

From the first day we bought it, the car has handled like a drunken water buffalo, has horribly long stopping distances, and was hesitating so badly that it almost caused 2 accidents. To the credit of Hyundai, their website gave me enough information to diagnose the hesitation and provide a patchwork fix (reflash the computer memory from the driver's seat)

In my honest opinion, the Hyundai XG-300 may rank as one of the top 10 worst foreign cars ever made. It would take a book to point out all the flaws, but suffice it to say they are primarily electrical in nature. This has caused me grief in car stalls, hesitation, dying and stopping. I have had it towed 3 times. The check engine light has been a permanent companion over the last two years, confounding my yearly attempts to get the car inspected. Each time the mechanics would read the fault code; fix the electrical problem (and mind you no repair less than $500) and 24 hours later the light would come back on. It is as if every electrical item connected to the engine is failing in sequence. The after-market for parts is non-existent; therefore, all parts must come from dealerships. Mechanics also appear to be charging much higher prices for labor. To date, I have paid 50% of what I paid for the car with no end in site. For the life of me, I cannot understand why some car-makers know how to make cars that work and others seem to be clueless. I would be shocked if anyone out in the world would say they have owned this car and had little to no problems. Because of this experience I would not ever consider buying another Hyundai or for that matter, any car product from Korea. That may be a harsh generalization, but in my world, one gigantic strike on my pocketbook from a car and that company is out.

I purchased a 2001 XG 300 in SD and have had nothing but issues. Yes, the check engine light is a constant, but I have also had more that one close call from the car stalling and getting hit from behind. Once on I5, that was pretty scary.

It is now at the Dealer in HI, having just move back. My alternator is being replaced. HOWEVER, I've spoken to an independent mechanic that says the alternator is probably not the problem and other cars has to bring it back for ANOTHER alternator shortly after installing.

I am going to try to sell this one, but in good conscience how can I??? I certainly don't wish this on anyone!!!

Summary:

Boy, I should have stayed home the day I baught this

Faults:

Motor codes needed reprogramed.

Paint Coming off.

General Comments:

I really loved this car, until the motor had problems. When I would drive down the road, somtimes I would fell jerkiness. I was told this was due to the computers codes needed to be reprogrammed. That was the first strike.

Then I received a letter in the mail stating that the cars horsepower was false advertised and they were very sorry. I just threw the letter away, and was like o well no biggie.

One day I took my car to the car wash. I started to wash the vehicle and to my surprise, paint started flying off. I called Customer service, and they said "there wasn't anything they could do," because the car was 6000 miles over the paint warranty. Also they informed me that I shouldn't wash my car. So I informed them that if I had never washed the car, then they would say that's the reason they wouldn't fix the car.

This car has been well taken car off, and garaged at day one of purchase. I was going to buy a Santa Fe, but now I will purchase from a different car manufacturer. Stay away from this car. Stay away from this car.

I have a 2001XG300L. I have no paint, transmission or Engine light problems. But I do have a problem with the battery draining every day. Have a new alternator and it is working well. Only have 32,000 miles. I have to jump start it, if I let it sit more than 3 days. Anyone had this problem or have a solution?

I have an 2001 XG300. I had a problem with my battery draining so I had the battery replaced. It worked fine for awhile but the lights on the inside and the headlights started fading out, just about every system light from ABS, check engine, low oil, came on. Turns out my alternator was dying. I ended up having that replaced and now, 4 months later, even a week after new spark plugs, my car is starting to jerk badly again. I have had very bad luck with this car!

The paint of my 2001 is peeling off of the bumpers.

I also have had hesitation and lurching after attempting to accelerate from a coast. They replaced a throttle position module and 3 mos later the problem is happening again! Luckily I bought it used, not new.
