I have a 2004 TL purchased in March 2004. In November of the same year I noticed that the top of the dash was fading from black to a mottled gray. The dealer said that he had never seen this problem before and sent the car to be detailed. This did not work so he agreed to replace the entire dash. When my daughter heard about it she said that before I had this done I should look at her 2005 TL which was already fading the same way.
I have since seen about seven TLs with the same fading. This has otherwise been a great car, but this is my second and last Acura. Does anyone else have the same defective dash?
I purchased my Acura TL in February of 2004 and haven't had any real problems with it. I must admit I was a bit taken back when the tires were almost gone after 15 or 16,000 miles.
I finally purchased Michelin's and they are great and the car is doing just fine in that regard. Lately I have noticed a slight thumping sound while I'm stopped at a traffic signal with the car in drive. As soon as I lift my foot off the break pedal it goes away. I took it to the shop, but it didn't do it the whole time I was there. It doesn't seem to be a problem for the moment just something I do not like. Since I am on record with my dealer I feel OK about it. Should I have a problem with it after the warranty is gone I have a record of prior problems with it.
Overall I love this car, haven't had any of the problems I
have seen listed here. I have to give my dealer an A+, they
give great service and even sent a mechanic to my home to
replace my heated seat accessory bulb on the passenger side.
I purchased a 2005 TL in November (my 3rd, 1999,2002) and am highly disappointed. The quality is horrible. The interior rattles more than my 92 year old grandmother. The dealership STILL can't get all the rattles fixed. A major issue that I had with my 99, and 02 is still around. My rotors have warped after 12,000 miles. I can't believe after Acura knew they had problems with the rotors on the old style did not address the problem with the new model. My dash keeps fading to gray from black. The car is basically a piece of trash. It is a good value for the options, but I would have paid more if the quality would be better. The dealership is nice, but will lie to your face with a smile on theirs. That makes me more mad than the quality issues. I am through with Acura for good. First time shame on them, second time shame on me, third time I should be shot for doing this again!
Purchased my 2004 TL in July of 2004. Everything has been fine with the car except the tires. I've had 2 blowouts, luckily the rear tires. To replace those tires with the same cost me $268/tire. The 2 tires left, that came with the car, are wearing away fast. On a recent trip in rainy weather the rear of the car, with the original tires, would plane. I had to stay under 60 when everyone else was doing 70-75. This is a major safety problem!!
Before my next trip I will change all 4 tires to something with a track record on durability, performance in the rain and cost.
For those reading this who are looking to buy make sure you demand other tires. If you don't you'll be changing them out at 20,000 miles.
Bought my 2004 TL in January of 2004. Tires had to be replaced at 24000. That is my biggest gripe.
The head liner came off and the drivers side panel began to come undone. Those two problems were corrected by the dealer. The stock tires that come with the vehicle are junk.
The overall car is very good. If you are thinking of buying a TL, make sure you get the Michelin all season tires thrown into the deal (they are expensive).
I bought my 2004 in Dec.2004. My 15,000 mile service revealed 3 dented rims and the need for two new tires. I am not an abusive driver and am very dispointed with the quality of the car parts. I have also had problems with dings in the windshield. As a driver of 25 years I have never had any of these problems. This car has bad Karma.
I have a 2005 TL and the car got broken into twice, but I can't figure out how they got in. I spoke to a mechanic and he told me to cover the VIN # because someone can get the # and have the key made if they know someone that will do it for them at Acura. They can't start the car though because of the chip. I talked to another TL owner that I know and the same thing has been happening to her. I had to spend $400.00 for an after-market alarm and the factory alarm is useless to me now. Please beware!
Another thing to be aware of, which is big in Europe, is to watch out when you lock your car using the remote.
Thieves, using I believe either another remote or a garage door opener, push their button the same time you push yours. What happens is the signal is cancelled out and you think you've locked your car, but, in reality, the car doesn't lock. You leave, and they gain easy access, and you come back thinking it's your fault for not locking the car.
I HAVE A 2004 TL, PURCHASED APRIL. In the first month of purchasing the car, I HAD TO HAVE THE TIRES REPLACED, BECAUSE OF THE BUMPY RIDE. FELT LIKE I WAS DRIVING ON UNPAVED ROADS. New tires did not completely correct problem. Now I am having the problem of the dash fading. I thought was the only one having this problem. This is the reason visited this site today. Now I CAN GO TO MY DEALERSHIP, knowing that this is a documented problem. Thanks to all of you for your comments.Overall,I like my car so far, but have driven only 17000 miles.
Um, well, the Acura TL is a sports sedan so therefore has sports tires. You should have known this on your test drive. If you don't like how a sports car rides you shouldn't have bought one.
I have 16,000 miles on my 2004 TL. This is my 4th. Acura.
1988-1990-1999.I can honestly say that I have been totally
satisfied with each one. The 04 is by far the most amazing.
Sure it rides a little stiffer than my 99 did, but there is
no comparison in performance! It truly is a sports sedan.
I love this car, and the navi. is rite on. I couldn't be happier with my choice to stay with Acura. JNP.
I wish I would have seen this page when I bought my 2006 Acura TL. The car is two weeks old and rattles like it is a 100 years old. Because of the build quality I do not recommend this car to anyone.
My friend bought a 2005 TL and now a year later it is running in perfect condition.
That said, the April issue of Car and Driver has a long term review of the RL and they reported endless problems you would expect in a Yugo, not an Acura.
Maybe Acura is following BMW and Mercedes in choosing high tech over quality. I hope not as Acuras have always been great cars, and they have never treated their customers like beta testers.
I have a 2005 Acura TL with 13K miles. I took it in for normal service today and they replaced my tires for free. I didn't even know I was having a problem with them. I have had nothing, but good things to say about this car and how Acura has treated me. Thank You.
Why were tl tires replaced after only 13,k miles?
Any comments by anyone out there would be appreciated.
