2001 Audi A4 1.8T from North America - Comments

"This car is problematic"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

This last weekend, the front bumper of my A4 pulled off while I parked at a concrete curb in the parking lot of my local grocery store. While Audi knows about and has agreed to repair A6's with this problem, A4 owners with the same problem are out of luck. Audi of America and the dealer both refuse to pay for repairing this car and to make the necessary modifications to prevent recurrence. Therefore, I am interested in hearing from any A4 owners out there that this has happened to for the purpose of filing a class action lawsuit to get this situation resolved. Please contact me at skraetsch@yahoo.com.

General comments?

I previously owned a 2000 A4, and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately after the car was totaled in collision, I purchased the 2001, which has been nothing, but problematic.

Of course the front end will rip off if you park it up on a curb. It has a low front end, which I must add looks very good. So next time, don't pull so far up! Or buy an SUV and you won't have to worry about it!

I also own an audi A4 2001 and my front bumper ripped off not once, but twice. The first time I was pulling out of my driveway and the skid plate caught the ground. I am in the process of getting an aftermarket bumper. Let me know what you plan to do. Feel free to email me at pawsinc1@yahoo.com.

I have a 2001 A4 as well, and the bumper fell off as a result of tugging over a curb. I also had several problems with the plastic skid plate coming loose.

I also have a 2001 A4 and my bumper has fallen off so many times, I have lost count. The original problem started when I serviced my car at the dealership with 4000 miles on it and I watched the porter put the car too far on the curb and I watched it rip off as he backed up. I confronted the manager with the problem and he insisted it was my fault because it must have been loose from something I had done (which was not the case because I think I would have noticed my bumper dragging), and refused to fix it. I am interested in learning what others are doing to correct the problem (besides paying $1200 to fix it). JJSweetie33@aol.com

Other than this problem, I love the car!

You know, I also have had the front bumper come off. Once when I was driving on an unplowed road in eastern Nevada, and the second time in eastern Wyoming when I forgot there was a concrete cylinder in front of me. I got in my car and when I went forward, I heard this horrible noise.

Each time, I went to a body shop in Long Beach, CA to get the bumper re-attached.

My boyfriend has a 2001 Audi A4. Not only the bumper, but a whole bunch of other things have gone wrong. unfortunately he has a lot of after market parts on his, but still this car is horrible and I wouldn't advise anyone to buy it.
