2005 Chevrolet Aveo LS 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Garbage on wheels

Faults:

Car only gets about 12 MPG since it was purchased from a Chevrolet dealer here in FL. This is the first new car and will be the LAST. This car has the worst gas mileage of anything I own. My trucks get better gas mileage. There is also a whole lot of oil leaking out, and when I changed the plugs at 30,000 miles, they were covered in oil. We tried to get GM to correct this, but it's not fixable.

We most recently took the car to a different Chevrolet dealership, and were told that the oil was from a dirty air filter. We replaced the air filter, and still have oil on the spark plugs and crappy gas mileage.

DO NOT GET AN AVEO!! They are renamed Daewoo cars, this was confirmed. Chevy bought this crappy car company in Korea and now they are dumping em on us. GM dealers like also refuse to honor factory warranty for repairs that are necessary. I will have to do like 2000 dollars in repairs to keep the car running. I will never buy GM again.. going to get a Honda Civic next.

General Comments:

Worst car I ever had in my life. Worst gas mileage!

I have a feeling 12 MPG is a touch on the low side. There would have to be something very wrong to get that!

2005 Chevrolet Aveo LT 1.6L from North America

Summary:

Peppy subcompact with lots of room

Faults:

The power lock on the rear door does not work, but they were fixed under warranty.

Valves needed to be replaced at about 15000 miles.

For a subcompact car, it is big enough for 4 adults to ride in.

It has a lot of pep for a 1.6 L engine, and the transmission shifts easily.

Car will easily go 80 MPH on the highway.

It handles well, except in gusty winds (like 40 MPH), where it gets pushed around a bit.

General Comments:

We purchased this car new. The main problem that we had is related to valves. The symptoms are that the engine will idle rough, and the "hold" and "check engine" lights will flash on and off. We had the car back to the dealer, and their computer analysis indicated that the engine was misfiring. After a couple of times back to the dealer, the service guy said we needed new valves. Apparently, certain engines from this year were manufactured with defective valves. One the values were replaced (it was a big job that required the car to remain at the dealer for several days) everything works great. The valves were replaced under warranty, so we didn't have to pay for a thing.

2005 Chevrolet Aveo LS 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Great car for the money,

Faults:

Engine light came on at 10K. It was a gas cap seal. Wouldn't take gas out of the pump good. Dealer fix. Replace timing belt at 110000. Will replace it again in the next month. Great car for the money. I drive 110 miles one way to work, so the gas mileage is a must. I only aveage 30mpg. Use Schaeffer's Supreme 7000 oil. Only change it every 10k to 18k. Have the oil analysis every time. Every 10K is better with the little oil filter that it has. After 12k or so it starts to show a little silicon in the oil (25ppm).So need to change filter after 9000k. Had transmission filter and fluid changed at 110000, it is due again.

General Comments:

Over all this has been a great car for the money. It has it squeaks and rattles in it like some of the other surveys read, but they are not that bad. For less that $12k, what do you want... It is just a car to drive back and forth to work for the mileage, or good kids car, or good around town car. In my case good enough for the trip to work. It has enough power to move down the interstate. And yes if you pass a 18 wheeler you are going to get blown around the road. If you want it all, spend the money and buy a higher end car, if not don't complain about a little car that you only paid less 12k for. I am over 6' tall and weight in about 350#, and the car has enough room for me to make the 222 mile drive everyday. I had a Chevy 2500HD before this car. So the change from that truck to this car was different, but needed. Two different cars for two different reasons.
