1997 Chevrolet Blazer LS review from North America

"Does not last over the long haul."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The Passenger side mirror fell off while driving down the highway.

The Drivers side rear view mirror fell off as well under the same circumstances.

The fuel gage registers half full at all times and has since about the 90,000 mile mark.

The following 3 items are all related to the check engine light being on. A rough idle, and cylinder 1,3,and 5 missing. This problem still persists after approximately $2,000.00 in parts and labor. The Dealers seem to have no clue as to the root cause of the problem.

The check engine light comes on and remains on for up to 3,000 miles at a time. It will ( after repairs) be off for only 200 or 300 miles before coming back on.

The ERG valve has been replaced Twice after 100,000 miles.

The O2 sensors have been replaced 5 times in the last 20,000 miles.Three times buy Chevrolet dealers and twice by myself.

The front windshield wipers would not work consistently from about 80,000 miles. A dealer told me that there was a "bulletin" out on the module, but did not offer to fix them. I bought a module ($26.00) and repaired them.

The air conditioning compressor has been replaced twice. Once at 75,000, and once at 130,000 miles.

General comments?

The miles on this auto are high in most peoples opinion I am sure. However, This car has gotten TLC from day one. All maintenance has been done according to the manufacturers recommendations. My normal tire wear averages 65,000 miles before replacement. No front end work is needed, or has been done. The engine uses no oil between changes. This I say so that you know that the problems I have had are not from abuse of the auto. My last Chevrolet lasted 327,000 miles before traded in. I had expected the same from this one, but I'm a little leery at this point.
