2000 Chevrolet Impala LS 3.8 from North America

Summary:

I hope to make 500000 with my Impy

Faults:

At 223000 miles the traction control comes on, then shuts off; the ABS light comes on as well. It doesn't do this all the time, but is annoying.

General Comments:

I have had no other issues. I have been so blessed with this car! My other car is a 2004 Avalanche, but it doesn't consistently get 28 to 30 miles per gallon like my Impy does!

2000 Chevrolet Impala LS 3.8 from North America

Summary:

Will go anytime/anywhere with no hesitation

Faults:

Brakes, front rotors warped every 8000 miles.

Fuel gauge, stopped working after 2-years.

General Comments:

The cabin is roomy and spacious for 5 - with plenty of leg room for the rear passengers.

Road noise took some getting used to, coming from a BMW.

Tires that came with the car "Goodyear" were noisy and followed the road grooves.

Changed the tires to Michelin, last three sets; to my surprise, the handling and noise changed for the best.

2000 Chevrolet Impala from North America

Summary:

OK, but would NOT buy myself

Faults:

My fiance and I were involved in a serious car accident on 10/31/09 (Afternoon, light rain) when some guy pulled out right in front of us and we couldn't stop/swerve and hit him.

It caused serious damage to the front end of our car - a lot more to the right side - however the AIRBAGS DID *NOT* DEPLOY!!! Yet the car is equipped with them. It also caused a crack in the windshield & bent the rear roof rack bar down to touch the roof..

Can someone please let us know if this has happened before or there is a recall... as we were hurt in the accident!

THANK YOU!!!

There have been other issues; water on the floor that we have found comes from the AC "drain"line & sometimes when it rains. Coolant system had to be replaced recently as the car overheated.. "Minor" things like that. And no rear cup holders!

General Comments:

Wish it had a temp/climate control that was "numbers" instead of "colours" - thus able to tell you what the outside temp is. More seat "positions".

Airbags have two or more sensors (usually one in front and one in the fender area). All sensors have to detect a collision to deploy airbags. If the collision is not at a high enough speed or is on an angle that doesn't upset all the sensors, they won't deploy.

Also some vehicles will not deploy airbags if the seat belt is not buckled (start your car with the seat belt buckled and the dinger will not ding and seat belt light will be off. Start it when it is unbuckled, and you will hear the warning chime and the light will be on; this demonstrates that there is a switch in the buckle).

I have towed a '00-'05 Impala that had a head on collision at 45+ mph with a full size Dodge Ram. The driver had broken legs/pelvis but lived. She would have died in many other cars. The dash was pushed back 4" and all the firewall to the B pillar spot welds were torn, engine/transmission was on a 45 degree angle in engine compartment, but the passenger compartment held up very well, with slight buckling in roof and rocker panel/floor. When you consider the forces in a head on collision with a pickup; VERY STRONG CAR!!

Summary:

Worthwhile for the most part

Faults:

I purchased my Impala 8 years ago. It ran very well, extremely comfortable, and drove real good on the highway.

I only had two big issues with car, both relating to the computer. Both sides, the one associated with the engine and the one relating to the anti lock system, both cost me 1K and above, now the transmission is causing me to fail emissions, I guess I got my moneys worth. Anyone with any advice on how to get around getting a whole new transmission??

Is your transmission slipping or is it just an emissions thing? If it is slipping, sell the car for a cheap price on craigslist.org. If the transmission is just an emissions thing, sell the car on Craigslist for a higher price and mention that the transmission is fine, except that it won't pass e-check (sell it to someone who lives somewhere that e-check is not required). Anyways, my advice is to sell it and get another car.
