Greetings all GM owners. This was my first GM purchase of a 03 TB LT 53K. I Love this truck, but tonight I hear this fan noise for the first time. I had it at the dealer once and questioned the ticking sound when it was still under warranty, but the dealer stated this was normal. The fan is now engaged hot or cold and the jet engine sound that is mentioned on this site is also my problem. I will contact my dealer tomorrow and find out where GM stands on this failure. I hope I am not disappointed like the many others who have voiced their comments on this site. GM should step up and take ownership if they want to stay in the automotive business.

Add one more jet to the list. Just found out that my clutch went bad also. Will try to figure cheapest way to fix, but I am very disaponted at this time.

Unbelievable...my '02 Trailblazer was delivered to the dealer today while sounding like a jet! Apparent fan clutch issue...I'll pick up tomorrow after I pay $ 600+. When will GM issue a recall on this or have they already??? This is my last Trailblazer... hello Toyota!

This is insane, of course I have the jet engine off and on now at 51,000, has anyone found a way to get this repaired through gm without paying?? and does anyone know if its bad for the truck to run like this? shoulda kept my jetta!!!

I have the problem at 53K miles, Jet engine off and on weekly. Trailblazer EXT LT 03. Why no recall GM?

And we continue to add TB to this list. 2003 TB w/40000 miles. Fan clutch was replaced I 2005. Worked for about 2 years. Have taken it to 2 different dealerships in the past month and 1/2 and they can't quite the jet under the hood. They even replaced the first clutch due to their GM quality warranty on any part (you get 12 months on these parts by buying them at the dealership service department). If anyone finds out how to fix this, let us know.

Like everyone else--will go shopping soon and no not for a GM.

Add another one...

2002 Trailblazer LTZ w 63K miles and intermittent roaring fan and warm A/C sometimes at slow speeds... Also had problems with the front differential seals and squealing noise which seems to be as common as the fan clutch...

Other GM problem vehicles I've had...

94 Cadillac Eldorado... GM has a TSB for transmission torque converter slip, solution is replace PROM with newer version that allows more slippage so they can get the car out of warranty cheaper, worked for mine as it slipped enough to trip the SES light again at 90K miles... Interior warping with age...

98 Cadillac Eldorado... Studdering power steering... Cadillac dealer tells me that it is common with a couple of model years and warranty won't replace because they can't guarantee it will fix the problem... Interior trim again warping with age...

97 Trans Am... Bad clutch on transmission, GM won't pay for dealer to troubleshoot, so they put 2 miles on it several times and give it back to me with unable to duplicate resolution...

96 Corvette... Problems with optical distributor, very common problem on the LT1 and LT4 engines... Lots of other warranty work, in the shop way too much...

Like the rest of you, it looks like this will be my last GM product... Lexus will most likely be my next vehicle...

It's a real shame GM... I've owned nothing, but GM vehicles, more than 20 in my lifetime...

I have a 2002 Trailblazer with the same Jet Engine under the hood. I am getting ready to take it in to be fixed at approx. $500 - $600 to have the fan clutch replaced. I called the GM Customer Complaint Hotline and evidently not enough people have called in to warranty a recall. They have some on record, but nothing has come of it yet. I encourage everyone with this problem to call in and possibly sometime in the future they will issue a recall and refund our money. The number is (866) 952-4368.

Did anyone have a slight vibration when going high speeds accompanied by this? any improvement in performance by replacing it? I will call that number and encourage all to do the same. we deserve our money back!

Guess what? I have a 2002 Trail Blazer and it started roaring this weekend. By Saturday night my check engine light was on, and it was my fan clutch. I called the Chevrolet Dealer Monday and was going to be just under $600.00 to fix it. Luckily I had bought the extended warranty and I still had 12000 miles left to go.

My next problem is my inside temperature reads 50 degrees all the time. Anyone help with that?

For those of you who had the fan clutch assembly replaced on Trailblazers, did this take care of the problem? I have already had this last assembly replaced twice and still have the jet engine under the hood. I've contacted GM about this via email and they gave a case number with a request for a bunch of information, but haven't heard from them in a couple of days. I asked that they research this to see if they can come up with a solution for the mechanics. Still waiting. The sensors have been replaced too and no luck.

02 TB with 35700 miles. I have just experienced fan clutch problem, locked up and fan runs high all time. Problem just started 3 days ago. Only minor problems with vehicle since purchased new. Based on above comments I'll review all options.

I just had the same thing happen. The SES light came on and I am 300 miles from home. Engine sounded like a jet engine. Then 1 mile form home everything went dead. The bearing on the water pump went bad and threw the serpentine belt off. After doing all the research on Internet I see this issue is prevalent.

I am in the middle of doing the repair myself. Cost of water pump and fan clutch about $200 total.

I have a 02 tb and the jet engine noise too will this hurt the car by driving it too long. and hopefully gm will recall.

My Mother has purchased nothing, but GM products for the last 11 years. She now owns a 2003 Trailblazer. This truck is (WAS) the most reliable vehicle she's owned, at least until yesterday. She went to start the truck last night and the damn thing sounded like a hurricane under the hood. At first I thought the air filter box had come loose. NOT WITH OUR LUCK! If GM doesn't fix this problem they can refund my deposit on the 2008 Camaro! I'll get the MUSTANG instead... And yes, this is a threat General Motors.

Fan clutch issue (sounding like jet engine) just cost me $ 800+ to repair at dealership. I called GM Customer Service Hotline and documented my displeasure concerning this issue. Customer service agent was helpful and polite. She said until they receive A LOT of complaints concerning the same issue, they WILL NOT issue a recall. Please call GM and get a case file # to get this fan clutch issue documented. GM's toll-free telephone number is 1-866-952-4368. Everyone, please call so we can get a recall issued. There is strength in numbers!!!
