1996 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 Liter-163hp from North America

Summary:

Nice car, but a little rough around the edges

Faults:

One fog light has burned out.

A bit of a lull when the gas-pedal is depressed, both when first accelerating and while rolling.

Driver-side window doesn't seal properly. It results in myself or my car getting a little wet during a car wash.

Driver-side door doesn't open very easily when the exterior latch is pulled - you sometimes have to pull a couple times.

General Comments:

Overall, it's a great car.

Many of the things that have went wrong with the car could have because of the general wear-and-tear of the car through the past few years.

Turning radius is awful. Period.

It's sleek design gives it a nice sporty look, but it's looks are a little deceiving... making this car seem quite a bit under-powered. Don't get me wrong, the acceleration and top speed of the Avenger is very nice for a low-end sports car.

1996 Dodge Avenger ES Coupe 2.5 Liter from North America

Summary:

Beautiful Car

Faults:

I had to replace the front struts in addition to the right wheel hub bearing. I was told that the wheel bearing was causing the "humming" sound the tire makes when the car accelerates, but the noise is still there, and no one seems to know what is causing it. I even bought new tires to no avail. (If anyone knows what could be causing this please help)

There is slight wear in the leather seats.

The "lighter" no longer works (fuse may be blown)

The driver window "wobbles" if the window is slightly down and you close the driver side door.

The battery had a dead cell and had to be replaced.

The driver side sun visor had to be rebolted.

There hood of the car had to be repainted due to it fading, but it's okay now.

The driver side door has a small "crack" in it.

General Comments:

This car is really attractive and looks great in Black which is the color I have.

The moonroof gives it added appeal.

The car has great handling and it would not seem that a car so inexpensively priced would perform this way.

My car has been reliable in the short time I've owned it with the exception of the battery dying on me.

Everything mechanically on the car works great.

1996 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 from North America

Summary:

When it's not in the shop it's a heck of a car!

Faults:

Fuel Pump replaced!

Water Pump replaced!

O2 sensors replaced!

EGR Valve replaced!

Transmission rebuilt!

Air Conditioner and Passenger side door lock replaced!

It's been sitting in the driveway since September 2004 because rack and pinion (power steering rack) needs to be replaced!

Battery must be replaced every 9 months.

General Comments:

Lumbar support in drivers seat is nice, but I wouldn't want to travel a long distance in either one of the passenger seats, front or back.

The turning radius sucks big time. But the acceleration makes up for it. Getting on the freeway rocks! I can go from 0 to 80 by the time I merge into freeway traffic and I absolutely love the handling in a curve.

There is a film over the headlights that I can't get off.

To get the film off of the headlights is to take 1000 or 2000 wet grit paper until the film is gone. Then use a McGuires level 7 with a variable speed buffer. And keep them hand waxed regularly.
