1996 Dodge Intrepid Base review from North America
"You get more handling than you pay for"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
This car has been fairly reliable. The steering rack bushings had to be replaced VERY early at 30000 miles. However, all other repairs fall into the "maintenance" category. Ie. battery, brakes and tires.
General comments?
This car is very spacious and comfortable for passengers, both front and back.
The engine takes off strong, but loses steam as the speed increases. The 4 speed electronic auto shifts smooth and capably, but it does not take a rocket scientist to determine that Chrysler does not make the most reliable transmissions.
And finally too much tire noise ruins what would be a very quiet cabin.
But after all that, the car's handling never forgets to put a smile on your face. The brakes are strong and predictable, and the high list of standard features and details make this car a terrific value for the growing family.
