1996 Dodge Ram Pickup 94-96 5.2 318 V8 from North America

Faults:

With my Dakota when I had it I had 4 Fuel pumps and 4 starters go bad. I have my Ram 1500 that has had a new tranny at 150,000 miles, water pump at 160,000 miles, and 2 hubs on the drivers side front go bad at different times, I had a light blow on the drivers front and melt the housing, and also the seats have started to wear badly so I ended up with a seat from a 94 ram.

1996 Dodge Ram Pickup Indy 5.9 from North America

Summary:

Good to the last drop of gas

Transmission LVDT at 102,000 km.

General Comments:

Excellent first truck. I laugh at the imitation trucks after 1996 which Dodge produced.

1996 Dodge Ram Pickup 5.9 liter from North America

Summary:

Good truck, just some poor quality in some of the components

Faults:

At 37,500 transmission went out.

At 120,000 fuel pump replaced.

Hard to keep aligned.

Catalytic converter has that standard Dodge rattle.

Front bucket seats don't maintain shape and the passenger side release comes apart frequently.

Radio stopped working around 30,000 miles.

Leaks when it rains and no one seems to be able to fix.

General Comments:

Truck has been pretty good overall. But when it breaks it is not cheap to fix. Too many dealer only and high priced parts. Dodge needs to reevaluate parts and cost, i.e. design higher quality parts that are not so costly.

Would I buy again? Not sure.

1996 Dodge Ram Pickup Dodge Ram diesel from North America

Summary:

Not as good as advertised for overall performance

Faults:

Being the third Dodge diesel we expected our 1996 to be as good as the previous ones, not. At 48,000 miles the transmission had to be rebuilt, but at that time it was still under warranty and was repaired by Dodge. At 73,000 we began having transmission problems and took it to our place of purchase and since the warranty would expire at 75,000 miles we wanted it checked and of course they couldn't find the problem, so we are looking to spend more money for transmission repair.

The drivers seat started wearing and had long cracks come in it when we had about30,000 miles on it, of course that wasn't covered.

The paint starting about two years ago peeling and flaking and I was told that was not covered also. Large spots started to appear on the truck bed and then peel. Going through a car wash is asking for more flaking, and now to save what we can on our investment it has to be repainted. We had a magnetic flag on the tailgate and when truck was washed where the flag was is now a nice gray undercoat spot.

I feel Dodge is less than fair to it's customers when we get little help in solving truck problems. For a $ 40,000 dollar truck we get zip.

General Comments:

Truck pulls good when transmission works properly.

1996 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 SPORT 5.2 e.g. 318 from North America

Summary:

A great bargain for my bucks

Faults:

Check engine light came on around 95,000 miles. Oxygen sensor went out.

Fuel gage got stuck on full after a hard bounce. Float got stuck freed itself.

Cruise Control went out around 115,000 miles. Still out.

General Comments:

I think I got a good one when I purchased this truck. It handles like a car and quick for a small block. Great on long trips. My wife always wants to leave the minivan home when we go on trips.

The power seat can put you in any position for comfort.

I have a black one and when its clean which is most of the time it turns heads.

The Infinity stereo system is nice, but it could have some more powerful speakers.

1996 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 V10 8.0L from North America

Summary:

Keeps on going, and going and going

Faults:

Serpentine belt went bad twice.

CV joint went out once.

The timing belt was off once, after it was fixed no problems.

General Comments:

This truck handles great, high or low speeds.

The top speed is not one of those far off destinations. This truck can get up there fast and keep it up.

We pull a 9,000 LB camper, the suspension hardly sags. The truck is able to pass in most conditions while hauling.
