1996 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 SLT 318 5.2 Litre from North America

Summary:

Disappointed

Faults:

Tire blowout with stock Goodyear Wrangler radials.

Rear window leak at the seals.

Battery had to be replaced.

Brake repairs more than normal.

Engine blown at 91,243 KM. Crankshaft broke in half.

Transmission slippage.

General Comments:

Bought this truck brand new, top of the line with all options except leather. Looked after this vehicle, never towed anything or carried more than 1000 lbs.

Spent close to $7000 on repairs so far when all it should have been was routine maintenance for a new vehicle.

When running it is a pleasure to drive, but JEEZ!

1996 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 5.9 from North America

Summary:

Typical Dodge, take care of it and it will take care of you

Faults:

All air conditioner components (made by a Japanese company, Nipodensa in Battle Creek Mich, who also makes Camry air conditioner trouble free components, go figure).

One fuel pump and two cruise control units (all covered by my Direct after market warranty).

Nearly all of the miles on this vehicle have been towing a 26' trailer on interstate highways.

General Comments:

Nearly all of the miles on this vehicle have been towing a 26' trailer on interstates.

Just today picked up a new 2001 Sport, and kept the 1996.

Am going to retire a 1985 Ram with 235,00 miles.

My first Dodge was a 1972 with a 360 and 3 speed colum shifter. It is still running around town with a 16 year old school kid trying his hardest to kill it. My son and my brothers son both tried but they couldn't do it.(it has over 600,000 miles on it!!

1996 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT Sport Ext Cab 5.9 V8 from North America

Summary:

A great looking and performing pick-up

Faults:

One of the front axle bearings seized up at 80,000 miles.

The starter is going (right now) at 103,000 miles.

No real problems or excessive wear with the truck, still looks great.

General Comments:

This truck offers a nice quite ride for a pick-up. I do a lot of driving and it has power to spare (with the 5.9 V8) and good handling.

I have a black colored Sport SLT package with extended cab and it is more of a head turner than I expected.

Totally satisfied.

1996 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Indy 500 Edition 360 V8 from North America

Summary:

A dependable, affordable, great looking truck

Faults:

The EPA canister went out once, but it still ran perfect anyway, it just made the 'check engine' light come on.

General Comments:

This truck has the best engine of any pickup I've ever drove! Runs like a clock.

Dependability is WAY better than the (3) Fords I've had since 1992! Only been in the shop for a check engine light and normal service.

This truck, even with the limited edition 'Indy 500' package, was a heck of a bargain (right at $20K) I haven't seen anything before or since that even compares to what I got with this truck in the same price category.

Summary:

A dealership owner's nightmare

Faults:

Tranmission went bad at 30,000 miles.

Paint on entire truck orange peeled.

Carpet in the rear of the cab disintegrated.

Front stabilizer went bad.

Air conditioner turns off/on by it self.

Oil pressure sensor went bad.

General Comments:

This is a beautiful truck, however the transmissions are garbage.

The cabs are very comfortable, but the carpet is garbage.

I have a 1996 dodge ram with 5.9L gas and it is the best truck I have ever owned and I will buy another 160,000 miles and going strong.

Bought my 96 new. After about five years, less than 50k miles, the mirrors would not stay in position, the seat started to separate, after 85k miles, the paint started to flake off the top and the box and the headliner started to come loose. Like the truck, the ride, the handling, the performance, but hate the cosmetics failing. Dealer failed to do anything about any of these issues. Now has 104k and starting to see some leaks.
