1994 Dodge Spirit LX 2.5 from North America

Summary:

This is a miracle car!

Faults:

Transmission was leaking when purchased.

Oil leaks when purchased.

Water pump went at 100,000 miles.

Head gasket blew at 100,000 miles.

General Comments:

This vehicle runs great!

I originally bought it as a beater car, with transmission and oil leaks.

But even when the water pump and head gasket went causing the head to warp it still ran like a champ!

It never broke down once!

The car has been sitting for a few months without being started, I tried to start it the other day and had to jump it, but once I did she purred like a kitten!

Who wouldn't like a car that runs like new with transmission leaks, oil leaks, coolant leaks, a blown head gasket and a warped head?

1994 Dodge Spirit 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

A sporty, yet affordable and reliable sedan

Faults:

A freeze plug had a pin hole in it.

Front tires will need replacing soon.

Roof paint peeling.

General Comments:

I got this car back in March of 2004 when my Tempo's transmission blew out.

The 3.0 V6 puts out plenty of power for this car and still gets great gas mileage.

The cabin is very roomy and quiet going down the interstate at 75.

The suspension keeps the car stable in cornering and gives you more of a sportier ride and feel to the car.

My only complaint about the car is the paint job. Chrysler had a bad mix of primer for a while in the 90's and now the roof is peeling clear coat and paint.

So far the car has not left me stranded. When the freeze plug gave, it held just enough for me to get it to the dealer!

Overall I love the car, compared to what I had before.

1994 Dodge Spirit from North America

Summary:

Evil Car That Tries To Kill People

Faults:

Of course, since I've had the Spirit, it's had that transmission problem that causes it to jerk every time I stop. The paint is peeling off the roof at a very rapid rate. The worst thing of all, though, is that it has this horrid tendency to just stall out for fun - when I'm driving, when I'm stopped at a stop sign or traffic light, sometimes it won't even start...

General Comments:

My experience with the Spirit has been absolutely atrocious. I've had the car stop on me a few times when I could have very easily been in an accident (such as while driving down the road, and once at a busy intersection). I also hate how vicious the jerk is every single time I stop. Naturally, not all Spirit owners have had so many drastic problems, but from my experience, I will never buy another Spirit and I hope to be rid of mine soon before it either drives me to insanity or gets me into a fatal accident.

Hi Steven, I was wondering if you ever found out what caused the car to stall, or just dye. I have the same issue with mine. Please help if you can. My e-mail is rogerz_1000@hotmail.com

Thanks-

Roger.

I had the same problem with my spirit. The problem, in my case, was caused by carbon build up in the injectors. I put a bottle of injector cleaner into the gas tank, and the problem has gone away. As well, the fuel economy has improved. Try the cheapest solution first, you may not have to go any further.

Great car. Only one problem is that the temperature gauge oscillates between the normal and hot range. It has not affected the car's performance to date. Other than that, no real problems.

1994 Dodge Spirit from North America

Summary:

I don't care for Dodge but this is a great car!

Faults:

The car stalls. I've learned to use the brake and gas together. There is rattling from the under body. The wiper motor needs replacing. Only 1 wiper works (only on sunny days) The hood latch is broke, however it opens with pliers. Also some type of rubbing or wobbling of some sort from the front passenger tire.

General Comments:

I bought this car in November of 2002 for $300.00. It was a beater and my only hopes were that it would last me through the winter until I could afford something else. By the way~the heater works great. I have driven this car everywhere and it has not let me down. Now I have purchase another car, but I can't let this little spirit go. It just keeps going and going.

I forgot to mention that there is something weirded out with the electrical on this car when you use the headlights. The panel lights won't light up and the hazards (I hope it's just on the inside) stay on, but don't blink. If I hit the right pothole, all better!

Hate to say it, but with the Hazard lights thing, it's not just on the inside. My Plymouth Acclaim does the same thing and if you need to use the hazards you must pull the switch out and push it in manually to make them blink- very annoying.

In my not so humble opinion, the stalling is probably some sensor or other or the wires going to it. Likely the oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold? Check to see that the ground wire to the head or block at the car's left end is not broken (2.5L).

Your Spirit must have taken a beating. My '90 Spirit (2.5) has 132k miles on it. Blew a head gasket about 2K ago. All now is fine with this car. It is tough convincing my wife to replace it.
