2002 Fiat Stilo Dynamic 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reasonable quality, acceptable performance and fuel economy

Faults:

When I went to pick the car up from the dealer (non-fiat) the dashboard warning lights were all on. The dealer brought in a auto-electrician and the fault was rectified before I took delivery of the car. This took an hour to resolve.

Warning light passenger air bag came on, but rectified itself after a week.

General Comments:

The car seems well built with reasonably good materials. The doors make a nice 'golf-like'sound when shutting.

The car is comfortable and easy to drive and I especially like the 'city' steering option for town use and parking.

The safety features are extensive with airbags for front and rear passengers and the reversing proximity bleeper is very useful.

2002 Fiat Stilo Dynamic - 3 door 1.6 16v from Hungary

Summary:

Compared to its price it is VERY-VERY GOOD!!!

Faults:

After 749 kilometers we had to change the front suspension. As it turned out during the repair Fiat recognized it as a general failure, therefore all cars were sold after June 2002 have been checked by the dealership first.

I had to go back to the dealership three times because of the right front seat airbag error message. 1st time: only delete the error message from the computer, 2nd time: do something with the connector under the seat, but nothing special, 3rd time: fix the connector with a plastic cable binder. Since then the failure disappear.

Rarely "Rear for bulb" error message. No solution at all!!!

Once I hit a wild boar and the right front became damaged. The repair was a piece of s... But it has nothing to do with the car itself.

General Comments:

Hitting that quite big wild boar did not cause so much damage on the car. I wish I will never have any accident in the future, but the car body calmed the accident forces very well.

Average consumption summertime (air condition, highway, city) : 6.1 liter/100 km.

Average consumption wintertime (highway, city) : 6,8 liter/100 km.

Interior is very well designed, easy to access everything.

We had 4 adults in the car (200 cm tall, 180, 180 and 170). Everybody felt convenient even after 4 hours. The trunk was full with stuffs and the car went still quite well. Passing anybody did not cause any problem. I got a ticket for speeding, too. We traveled to High Tatra in Slovakia and the average consumption was still around 6,5 liter/100 km PERFECT!!!

Even during coldest winter the engine starts and runs smoothly.

It has 195 tires. It holds the car on the road perfectly.

My Punto is exactly the same, and after the garage has had their grubby mitts on it to TRY (Ha Ha) to sort it, the list of problems seems to go from bad to worse.

And they say there's no such thing as a bad car anymore!

It seems you have one of the first batch of cars (noisy rear axles, passenger airbag failure warning light, various noises from rear hatch...).

Things seem to be better now, see www.stilo.org for details.
