2002 Ford Escape XLT V6 from North America

Summary:

I love this car

Faults:

I just recently bought my 2002 Escape in June of 2011. It had 221xxx miles on it when I bought it.

Now I bought mine from a trusted small used car lot, and I have not had hardly any issues from it, other than having to replace some sensors and whatnot, and now at 223xxx miles I am just now having issues with my trans. Now to me that doesn't sound that bad; I see other people having transmission problems at like 36xxx miles, and I'm just now getting them at 223xxx.

Other than this just now popping up, I have no other complaints about this car; my engine still runs strong, and I have never had an issue with it. I can deal with fixing the small things, if it means my engine and trans have lasted this long. I'm sure that eventually my engine will start wearing out, and if or when that time comes, depending on the condition of the rest of the car, I might have that replaced also, instead of buying a new car.

I love my Escape.

2002 Ford Escape from North America

Summary:

Lost my faith in this company!

Faults:

My transmission has gone. None of my gears worked other than my reverse gear. Took it to a mechanic, and I'm getting a used transmission, so I'm hoping that will at least give me another 2 years till I get rid of this car.

Not too happy to have my transmission fail so early. Apparently this is a known problem for this model.

General Comments:

Not so great on gas.

2002 Ford Escape XLT from North America

Summary:

I have always loved the car, but it's become too expensive to keep replacing the transmission

Faults:

I purchased the car in 2005 with 30,000 miles on it.

In 2007 I had to replace the transmission, which was at approximately 60,000 miles.

Today, February 16, 2011, I learned that the transmission has once again failed and must be replaced. There are approximately 100,000 miles on the vehicle.

Faults:

Wow... I didn't realize there were so many owners with the same problems over and over again.

My OD light just started blinking today as I was driving down the highway; didn't hear any unusual noises or feel anything out of the ordinary.

I just had a major tune-up in Oct. of 2009, paid almost 1,600 at the dealership. I told them to fix everything on the vehicle that needs to be fixed. They never mentioned any foreseeable problems with the transmission, which is what I am thinking is causing the blinking. I turned off my vehicle when I got home, then turned it back on again, and it's not blinking anymore, but I am wondering what will happen if I drive on the highway again?

Does anyone have any suggestions before I decide to take it into a mechanic? I read some other reviews on different searches, and it said to check the fuse, the fluid and some other things.

General Comments:

This is the first "major" problem I have had.

I had to replace the alternator once, the battery, a couple of belts. The airbag light doesn't go off.

Other than that, this vehicle has been pretty reliable for a 2002 Escape. I just hope I don't have to replace the transmission, it would totally break me if that is the problem.

2002 Ford Escape XLT 3.0 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Average

Faults:

Tranny is gone at 95,000 miles. As with a lot of other comments I have read here... just died suddenly... no slipping.. just done...

After reading the comments here, this seems to be a common problem... will not be replacing the tranny since it seems like all you can get is about 100,000 miles, and who the hell knows how many miles the rebuilt tranny has on it...

General Comments:

I still think I got my money's worth... paid around 10K for 5 years of service... with maintenance... around $200 a month...

Pretty decent... I didn't expect this car to last much beyond the 5 years... and my wife pounded the car; drove in every day in stop and go traffic all time...
