1993 Ford Escort GT 1.8L DOC from North America

Summary:

Good gas mileage, and fast

Faults:

Its broke down right now, I'm thinking the timing belt. I've replaced the fuel pump, put a new air flow meter on it, and it is in need of a alternator belt. And the heads where replaced along with the brakes before I got the car.

General Comments:

Most of these problems from what I here are general in the escort, and it dosen't help that the previous owner recked the car a couple of times. But I still love the car and it is surprisingly fast for a 4 banger.

127 hp

16.5 in the 1/4 mile stock.

1993 Ford Escort GT 1.8 from North America

Summary:

Great student car!

Faults:

I recently bought my Ford Escort GT from my grandpa so most of the problems happened while he still owned it.

Timing belt needed replacing at around 80,000 kilometers.

Breaks needed replacing at 127,000 kilometers and then the master cylinder needed to be replaced at about 128,400 kilometers.

The automatic seat belts don't work well in the winter and become annoying, however they work very well in the summer.

General Comments:

This is my first car and I love it!

This car is pretty efficient and fun to drive.

In the winter I never plug it in and on the coldest mornings it still starts up on the first try.

Everything is great about this car. It handles reasonably well for an older car and is quick off the line.

The front seats are comfortable, but the rear seats are not.

I did buy this car from my grandpa who got this car serviced regularly and never drove it hard, which makes it drive like a brand new car.

1993 Ford Escort LX 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A good first car, but not something to buy if you want comfort

Faults:

Seats wore badly.

The car began to leak very badly within a few years of purchase, there was always a smell of mold in the car.

The car began to fog up when it was humid outside (I live in Tennessee so this was a bit of a problem)

At around 70,000 miles the car would be started in the morning and die. Sometimes it would do this two or three times before it ran properly.

General Comments:

This car was very uncomfortable, I drove to Florida in it and I had to stop every hundred miles because my legs were cramping up.

The seats are very uncomfortable.

The sound system was bad.

If you're over six feet you will not be able to ride very comfortably in this car. I didn't have much of a problem with it, but my boyfriends always did.

Though I have many complaints about this car, it would always get you where you wanted to go. I only had one experience where the car would not start at all for me, and that was because a belt broke.

I have a 93 escort Lx Hatchback (in the process of selling) I had the same problem with the mold smell. I know that there is a leak in the trunk and that the smell comes from there. Everytime it rains or snow or when I get a car wash water leaks from underneath the car into the trunk and it just makes the whole car smell so bad. Nobody could find the leak though. I would agree that the car will get from place to place, but I really couldnt stand the problems that did come up. I just bought a 94 Ford Probe GT. I love this car to death. Very big difference from the slow escort to a real fast Probe!!!

1993 Ford Escort LX Hatchback 1.9 litre from North America

Summary:

Amazing car for running around town and shorter trips.

Faults:

The problems on this car a very few. I have had the clutch replaced at 100 000km I managed to find a rebuilt one so it cost me about $300 total to get fixed.

The parking brake was stuck. This overheated the drums and cracked the pads.

The passenger side stabilizing rod snapped from rust. It should not have happened, but it wasn't too expensive to replace. Around $200.

General Comments:

This car is great. The manual transmission really peps it up.

I drive this car very hard and it loves every minute of it, but it is a noisy little engine. It starts with no grief on incredibly cold mornings as well.

It handles great in town and OK at higher speeds. The ride is a little harsh.

The cabin is comfortable as well. Good leg room in the front. The seats lack lower back support though. The air conditioning takes a lot of power from the engine.
