Summary:

I would buy this truck again!

Faults:

I have had very few problems with this truck.

Had to change the front brake pads around 75,000 miles. It was a simple fix.

Occasionally in very cold weather the idle controller must stick causing the truck to not want to idle properly. If I rev the truck up a couple times when this occurs, the problem disappears.

The hood did not want to latch properly, but used some WD-40 to loosen the release mechanism under the hood and it works fine now.

General Comments:

This has been a great truck for me. I am a firefighter and have used it to respond to the fire station and this truck can move!

I have also pulled several heavily loaded trailers with this truck, and the truck has done well. Plenty of power.

The ride is great for a truck.

I would like if the truck got better gas mileage (who wouldn't), but 15+ mpg in town isn't too bad.

Summary:

More than paid for itself

Faults:

The problems that I have encountered with my 4X4 extended cab truck have been virtually non-existent. I have replaced the battery twice and have gone through 2 sets of tires. I had a tie-rod break at about 110,000 miles and I have replaced the shocks and struts. I was told by my mechanic that I need to have new brake pads on the front, but the brakes on the back are still OK. I, like everyone else, have had a problem with my dome light. Mine just doesn"t work and spraying the latches with WD40 got rid of the door ajar light.

General Comments:

I have 141,500 miles on my truck and still feel very comfortable taking it on trips into Idaho's mountains or on long distance drives. I pull a flatbed trailer with 3 ATV'x on it into the back country and have yet to be disappointed or stranded. I thought that the truck that I owned before my F-150 was unbeatable, but if I get another 37,000 out of this truck before replacing the engine then I will have to relegate Toyotas to 2nd place. This is a great truck and now I expect this quality from Ford.

Summary:

Nice to own a "head-turner" again.

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong, yet. I have only had my Ford for 2 weeks. I did some research on full-sized trucks when I decided to move up from a mid-size, and the F-150 had the best for customer satisfaction. The power mirror switch doesn't work in 1 direction, but I can live with that. I would have thought that a 1998 would come with a CD player instead of a tape deck. Seats are a little uncomfortable on long drives.

General Comments:

I find the ride a bit "bouncy", but my truck is 4 wheel drive, and is the short box version, so I expect that. It feels like a very solid truck despite all the plastic in the interior. No rattles or squeaks. I love having a V8, especially since my last truck was a V6. The extra power will come in handy for towing our 23 foot trailer. Looks and runs great. This truck is a head-turner.

Our 98 came with the tape deck in the front and a six disc changer in the back. A little out of reach when driving but easy access from the ground. Its location will cause a skip if you slam the door though.
