2000 Ford Fiesta Zetec-S 1.6 16v from UK and Ireland

Excellent little car

The only problem I had was the motor for changing from hot to cold air.

Other than that, I had it for 6 months and didn't spend a penny on it.

General Comments:

This was the best car I have ever owned. It's a 1.6 16v 125bhp and seriously lightweight; maybe too light, so that it spins in rain with little on the foot pedal.

Handling is good, but they need lowering slightly; never had mine done.

The clutch and gearbox were spot on, as Fords usually are.

Very sporty, decent interior, nice kit and rims as standard.

Pulls quite nice, and with a simple induction kit sounds awesome.

If you have the chance to buy one of these, I would get one. I'd have one tomorrow if I could afford it.

2000 Ford Fiesta Ghia 1.2 from UK and Ireland

Very pleased with the car overall

Nearside suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated and was informed when serviced 2006 at 30574 miles.

General Comments:

The Fiesta Ghia X reg was a smooth and comfortable ride.

I had rust inside the door frame after 5 years (window strut), and found this was a common problem with this model (informed by body work team), and it has since returned this year (2007).

2000 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.25 from UK and Ireland

Highly Recommended Small Car

A minor rattle on the exhaust which cost me £5 for a new clip.

General Comments:

This car for the money is one hell of a car and in my opinion the best car in its class for its age and price.

This car has electric windows, power steering, air con, remote central locking, alarm, immobiliser & 14" alloy wheels all at a low cost.

Speed wise it can keep up with a lot of hot hatches out there and compared to my last car a 1.0 Vauxhall Corsa Envoy this feels like an F1 Car.

Being over 6ft this car is adequate enough when in the front 2 seats, but in the back can be a tight squeeze.

Boot space is average, but with the back seats down gives you a lot of room.

Reliability has been excellent for the year that I've owned it with the only costs being services and MOT & the small cost of repairing the exhaust.

With the cheap running costs, the low insurance group and the fuel economy this car is an ideal car for a first car or a cheap runabout which is quite nippy.

Does the ford fiesta come with a cd player, or do you simply have to insert one yourself??? Also what is the sound system like because I'm quite a fan of my music and like to have it rather loud ecspecially going pretty fast on the motorways...? Craig Martin.

Could have been good if not for the staggering list of 'common faults'

Piston rings went at 34000 miles. Covered by Ford warranty, but only after many letters and legal threats. The car had a full Ford Service History.

Rust in door sills and along side-skirts. Again covered by warranty, but still hassle to get it sorted.

Steering wheel 'melted'. Not covered by warranty, but got 80% of the cost from Ford after complaining.

General Comments:

The car handles well and is fun to drive.

However it is let down by serious lack of power. It just isn't quick enough and has to be absolutely killed to go anywhere. Nothing before 3500rpm, nothing after 5800rpm.

The interior really lets the car down. It's not comfortable and the driving position is awful. Everything feels cheaply made and is not different to a normal Fiesta.

My 2000 model had covered twice the mileage of yours when I sold it last year, and had suffered none of these problems (although the steering wheels are a known issue). Certainly never heard of one going rusty, or suffering any form of engine failure, and I was in the owner's club and in touch with hundreds of other Zetec-S owners! This engine is also used in the Focus, and our company fleet has several of these with well over 100,000 miles (of junior rep abuse) that still run well. Never heard of piston rings going, or other major mechanical problems before.

If you're complaining about performance, a cheap looking interior and poor comfort, I can't help wondering why you actually bought the car. Didn't you test drive it first? All of those things would have been apparent within half a mile on a test drive.

It's not supposed to be a no holds barred hot hatch, but to offer hot hatch looks with affordability, low running costs, and reasonable insurance costs! It strikes me you've totally missed the point of the car, and have been particularly unlucky to experience these problems.
