Faulty petrol release.
Faulty rear seat belt.
Failed drive shafts.
Leaking boot.
I bought the car new in January 2001 and soon after-wards I discovered that the petrol cap release did not work.
Although the car has been 100% reliable there has been an ongoing problem with a knocking from the front wheels on left hand lock. This was 'cured' by the dealers when they fitted new drive-shafts. The problem still persists.
This year the boot has begun to leak around the rear drivers side lights. After a heavy downpour this can result in up to 2 inches of water in the spare wheel well. The dealer has informed me that 'water ingress' is not covered in the second and third year of the warranty. Surprise, surprise. The dispute is ongoing and the car is going when it is sorted.
I agree with the above review. I currently have the same problem of water flooding into the boot via the rear lights. the dealer quoted £190 to replace the rear lights including seals as they can only be sold as one item thus making it so expensive. the dealer said it is a very common mondeo fault and that I should try and get ford uk to foot some of the bill. however they refused to offer any assistance and basically wiped their hands of it. does anyone know of a less expensive way of solving this problem?
The leaking rear light cluster can be re-sealed by removing and re-fitting with new gasket. The job should cost about 20GBP.
I had this problem also, and solved it very cheaply. Remove the rear light cluster, and put a bead of flexible instant gasket compound all round the seal, and then replace cluster. Tightening the nuts will squeeze the gasket compound making a water tight seal - the light cluster can be removed easily at a later date. Tube costs around £3 to £4.

Whilst my Mondeo was having its MOT I mentioned to the mechanic that I had water leaking into the boot when it is raining, his response was that he had sold his car because of the problem. I then went to my car parts supplier and again mentioned the problem, he had also experienced this problem and was kind enough to look at my car and explain how to remove the lights and suggested buying a flexible sealant and putting a seal around the inside. My car also failed its MOT because the windscreen washer would not work, this is either a split hose underneath the bottle or the connection. With so many Mondeo owners experiencing the leakage problem surely Ford should offer to help to ensure customers will stay with them. They got it wrong, admitting it and offering a solution is the way to keep loyalty.
I too had trouble with water getting into boot when raining or washing the car thi was solved by using flexible sealer around light unit, just recently water has started getting into the rear seatig area soaking the carpets I am now going to sell because of this. The car is reliable, good on fuel and comfortable to drive, it's just the water problem.
The boot on mine (2000 registered) is leak free, although when I lift the tailgate I can see a bead of suspiciously aftermarket looking mastic around the rear light clusters. I think I have a previous owner to thank for that. Works a treat though. No leaks at all and completely invisible with the tailgate shut.
