1993 Ford Probe GT 2.5L DOHC from North America

Summary:

A Truly Great Sports Car!

Faults:

Interior door panels fell off.

Hatch struts gave out.

Cassette deck doesn't work.

Replaced 1 timing belt.

Oil in spark plug holes.

Re-did CV joints about 3-4 times.

A few dash panel bulbs are burned out.

Power antenna broke.

Rocker arm cover oil leakage.

General Comments:

This car has almost 218,000 miles on it. Yes, it's the original engine, and yes, it does use some oil, most of which is likely leaking out via the rocker arm covers.

This car WANTS to be driven! With all the little things that are wrong with it and need to be fixed, this car still wants to get up and go!! It just keeps going and going and going...!

When it was younger, my 93 Probe GT would handle anything I drove it through, and accelerated very quickly (it still accelerates quickly actually, even with 218,000 miles on it!). It was pure pleasure to drive.

I'm rejuvenating it, part by part, because it deserves a new life. My Probe GT has served me well, and I believe I will keep it for the rest of my life.

1993 Ford Probe SE 2.0L L4 from North America

Summary:

A cheap source of speed

Faults:

Door panels fell apart, and had to be secured using screws.

General Comments:

This car has been an excellent daily-driver for me. With few modifications, it has proved to be very fast for my taste, and has shown and excellent amount of control.

One of the few problems I have encountered is that when the car is in idle, the cabin vibrates, making all passengers uncomfortable during long periods of time.

For a reasonable amount of horsepower, and little amount of weight, this car can more than handle the road it was made for.

You say your car shakes bad at idle, I was told that that is usually the motor mounts which commonly give out on these at about 75,000.

1993 Ford Probe SE 2.0 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A sporty, reliable vehicle!

Faults:

Have to replace some part of the exhaust each year. I attribute that more to Maine winters rather than actual problems with the car.

Had to replace the spark plug wires at 50,000 miles.

The stock battery was replaced in 2001 - 8 years old.

General Comments:

This has been a solid car, and has survived 11 Maine winters. Not too shabby for ANY vehicle.

I haven't had a car payment for 5 years! You CAN'T beat that!

1993 Ford Probe Base 2.0 DOHC from North America

Summary:

Awesome deal, great little car

Faults:

The only thing that has gone wrong is a piece of my exhaust rusted out, which was easily repaired under $10 with do-it-yourself job.

Door panels broke off, simply screwed them back in.

Spoiler had rusted out when I bought it, a cpl hours and some paint to fix.

Radiator has a small leak, common in factory cars, my Shadow had the same thing.

General Comments:

The minute I saw this car I fell in love with it, and once I got in the drivers seat it was mine. I paid $1000 for it and it was worth every penny.

It came with cruise control, rear windshield wiper, ATX, and the color was electric metallic red.

I used it as a daily driver, driving it over 100 miles some days. The only thing I had to check was the engine coolant. Rarely had to put any in though. An oil change every 7500 miles and some fuel injector cleaner will keep it running tops!

It's a very speedy car, with good take off. If you're looking for a cheaper car to make into a performance car, go with a 4 cylinder probe. It might take a little more work finding performance parts for it, but it has the ability to go faster than the GTs.

If something ever did happen to this I would definitely look for another.
