I've change the EGR Valve ($87) out cause the Service Engine Soon light came on and that's what the On-board Diagnostic computer said to do to fix it. That didn't fix it so I changed it again after 2 months cause it was still under warranty. I is a PITA to change, and the second time didn't help either. Changed the fuel filter ($14) and that fixed it. My advise; start with cheapest repair items it could be and work your way up, I'm sure my EGR Valve was just find and it was the fuel filter. I'm about to change the spark plugs and wires, which are still original. Change your oil every 3000 miles religious like and your engine will last a long time. The Ford battery died around 45,000 miles and I got the biggest battery that Wal-mart sold that would physically fit to replace it cause I typically like to run other gadgets off the battery.
I bought this truck because it was a bargain. I paid $4200 for a 2 year old truck with 22,000 miles on it that had been garage kept and the guy wanted room to put his Buick in the garage. At the time I think it Blue booked for around $9500, so I practically stole it. All the other trucks I looked at had leaking seals and rough running engines cause people wouldn't change their oil properly. This is an amazing truck. It was originally sent to Brazil as a test vehicle in 1995, and the 4.0 Liter engine didn't pass the emissions test like the 2.3 Liter did so they sent it back to the US. This truck has amazing power, I can spin the tires all the way into 3rd gear. It handles great and from my experience, I would buy another light truck again. Buy the widest tires you can get.
