1999 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 V6 (Duratech) from North America

Summary:

We'll see if this Ford treats me well

Faults:

A/C compressor clutch went out -- very costly.

Check engine light, just a bad hose.

Needed new ball joints and steering links.

General Comments:

It's not a bad car. I've never been a fan of Ford, but this car is decent.

I don't like the motor I have in it, because it is a bear to work on and labor costs, well they'll get you if you don't take care of it.

I do wish there were more cup holders available, but you can't have it all.

Very fast acceleration... good if you like to get your tension out.

1999 Ford Taurus SE from North America

Summary:

Would not buy another

Faults:

The car has a small leak in the heater core, but my mechanic said that it so small it is hardly noticeable.

I also had the problem with my speedometer moving around drastically while driving at highway speeds---had to replace the idle control motor.

Had to replace the power steering pump, the power steering belt, and the rack.

Currently, I am hear a groaning sound in the front occasionally when I brake and turn at low speeds.

I guess it will be back to the shop to find out what that is.

I read on one of the car sites that it could be the ball joint.

Hopefully I will not be a Driver Returns On Foot (FORD backwards).

General Comments:

I really do not like all the ovals in this car.

It makes it very difficult for someone as short as I to see out the back windshield.

1999 Ford Taurus V6 from North America

Summary:

Don't like it at all

Faults:

Power steering pump went at 90,000.

Steering rack and pinion system replaced at 95,000.

Head lamp lenses fogged up every day.

Drivers side seat cushion cloth stretches unreasonably.

Heat- What heat? Doesn't heat even if I start the car 15 minutes early.

General Comments:

If this wasn't my company vehicle- it would be gone.

1999 Ford Taurus LX from North America

Summary:

Not good, not horrible

Faults:

Extremely jerky when I'm slowing down or changing gears. I can actually hear the engine complain.

The suspension isn't that great. It might be because it's worn down, or because it was built that way. I don't know. I can feel almost every bump on the road.

The windshield wipers go on randomly sometimes whenever I go over bumps/potholes.

General Comments:

This car is a lot wider than the Asian imports, and it took me two broken side view mirrors to get used to it.

The interior is spacious and comfy, though. Good place to crash in.

1999 Ford Taurus SE 3.0L 24v DOHC from North America

Summary:

I'd never part with this car... ever

Faults:

Normal issues for a car with age. Alternator, Belts, Lights, Brakes, Tires repairs.

General Comments:

This vehicle likes to be driven and has to be held back from speeding. It's braking and handling qualities actually saved my life on the road. It has no lane drift while driving and superior performance. I'd have a fleet if I had the money. The best product ever put out by any automobile manufacture. Absolutely one of the best body styles made, sleek curves and smooth corners.

1999 Ford Taurus SE 3.3L from North America

Summary:

It is a decent car

Faults:

Blown head gasket, heater doesn't heat cracked radiator overflow tank almost all radiator hoses include metal ones have leaked.

General Comments:

Everyone has problems with this car and it not heating because the heater core has a bypass hose on it so not all of the heated radiator fluid ever goes through the heater core. If you drive it for a very long time and has a chance to warm up all the fluid it will warm some, but never as much as other cars. Even the dealers don't seem to understand this concept. It would be a good car down south, but everywhere else it is cold it is not fun in the winter.

That's funny with the heater cores on the '99s. I have a perfect condition '91 Taurus and the heater blows soo hot it could melt my face off! I guess that it would have been better if they had kept the '91 heater design instead of the '99.
